The Devil Wears Prada is a film tale about Andrea's career journey, whose biggest ambition is to
become a journalist. Andrea "Andy" Sachs is an aspiring journalist fresh out of Northwestern
University. Despite her ridicule for the shallowness of the fashion industry, she lands a job as junior
personal assistant to Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, a job that "millions of
girls would kill for". Andy plans to put up with Miranda's excessive demands and humiliating
treatment for one year in the hopes of getting a job as a reporter or writer somewhere else.
At first, Andy fumbles with her job and fits in poorly with her gossipy, fashion-conscious co-workers,
especially Miranda's senior assistant, Emily Charlton. After a disastrous dress trial meeting in which
Miranda berates her in front of the entire team, she approaches art director Nigel to help her learn
the ropes in the world of fashion. She begins to dress stylishly and starts showing effort for the
position, accommodating all of Miranda's whims and fancies. Problems arise in her relationship with
her chef boyfriend, Nate, who increasingly finds her spending all her time at her new boss's beck and
call.
The main Villain in this movie is Miranda Priestly. The ethical dilemma started she may hold a great
deal of power and influence however she is ruthless, cold and demands perfection. She is seen to act
rudely and self-obsessed towards her colleagues, engages in rivalries with other female associates
and betrays her closest friends in order to advance her career.
The heroin in this movie is Andy. The ethical dilemma is when she faces throughout her time at
Runway is adjusting to a fast paced and unpredictable environment. From changing schedules
to last-minute wardrobe modifications, assistants are the final line of defense for any executive.
Andy quickly learns that her job depends on her ability to stretch and flex her connections to achieve
the desired result that something is wrong when Schlumberger workers leave the rig without
conducted pressure test to the cement and when the first negative pressure test is failure.
The moral action has two categories which is ethical and unethical action. There are so many moral
educations in this movie. We list of its. Firstly, the conflicts began with undecided. It is started when
the Andy is stuck with the decision of whether or not she should conform to the unethical behaviour
of the fashion world or to stay true to her ethical values whether focus on the integrity of the moral
actor rather than the act or considers character that is defined by one's community, the motivations
& the intentions. Secondly, the most obvious ethical issue was probably the abuse of power and
privilege. Miranda did not care who the person was, she was more interested on the job being done
resemblance of a tyrant where he orders everyone to be the same in aspect and probably
personality. For example, she wouldn’t allow employee to ride elevator with her and she asked for
nearly impossible tasks such as obtaining the Harry Potter manuscript prior to being published.
Besides that, Miranda possessed a management style that was vague in her objectives without any
guidance to the employees. She also has no interpersonal skills by just orders people around and
does not consider them part of the team just means of completing her wants. She is a
controlling type of manager that sets standards the way she wants them and also check
standards. Lastly, Miranda was portrayed as a legend and though she may have appeared vain, she
was simply devoted to Runway and did what was best for its sustainability. However, she wasn’t as
devoted or compassionate to her employees. She refused to call Andy by 1 her name but instead
referred to Andy as Emily, the name of the first assistant. One might think that this management
style was ineffective but the opposite was true in the movie. Because Miranda convinced everyone
that she was right all the time, this allowed her to remain secure in her job.
Consequentialism is an ethical theory that judge whether something is right by what its
consequents are. When Miranda demanded that Andy get the unpublished Harry Potter
manuscript otherwise Andy would be fired. Andy was able to obtain the manuscript from a
business contact that had access to the manuscript but the assumption is that Andy was a third
party and did not receive permission to receive the manuscript from the publisher. Another
consequentialism is when Andy faced was when Miranda offered her to participate in the Paris
fashion week. Andy hesitates to take this privilege away from her coworker Emily, but is
eventually forced to accept it after being told she will lose her job if she declines. Although Andy
considered the ethical dilemma between her coworker, she took a utilitarian standpoint and
accepted the offer due to her job being at stake. In the words of Deckop, this is a utilitarian decision
because, it is acceptable to cause harm to some, as long as the benefit that others receives
outweighs the harm”. In this case, despite Emily losing out on the opportunity of her dreams, Andy
gets to keep her job and Miranda is satisfied for the greater good of her company.
Deontology Ethics is an approach that focuses on the right or wrong of actions taken by
themselves, as opposite to the right or wrong of the consequentialism of those actions or to the
character of the actor. This incident had happened after Andy had finally earned Miranda’s respect;
in fact, Miranda had even started calling Andy by her name instead of Emily, but the request for the
unpublished manuscript was actually punishment for Andy not following rules and Miranda was
trying to find a reason to fire Andy. In a perfect moral world, Andy should have quit but sometimes
we find ourselves so engaged in a culture that it is hard to escape because of the fear of failure,
especially for a driven, budding journalist such as Andy. Also, Miranda should have never asked Andy
to steal from the publishers of Harry Potter; Miranda exemplified traits of both abusive power and
mobbing.

Ethical actions based on the Golden Rule
The Golden Rule is principle where treating others like we wish to be treated and is taught in all
religions and also easy to implement. if we have positive values in ourselves. Based on the villain
characters in this movie many ethical action that we can consider to take if we in his situation. First,
Miranda hiring the impressive employee. Miranda’s power can also be questioned as she
herself is superficial in her hiring of employees and values looks and fashion style over a potentially
more beneficial employee with strong work ethics and impressive resumes. Second, a promise
or agreement to do something on a job commitment. Miranda always committed with her job and
she want all employees do it job accordingly by follows his orders. We can see Miranda ask Andy do
it job accordingly, if not she will getting fired. Third, Miranda participated in utilitarianism and profit
maximization decision-making models in this example. She believed that taking away Nigel
promotion to keep her job resulted in the best benefit for the company. Profit maximization puts
profit before societal responsibilities even if it concerns your own family and friends. Runway
magazine would deteriorate in Miranda eyes she believes that without her management there will
be no success. She even self sacrificed her marriage and her children for the sake of the company.
Although she is going through a hard time with divorce, she would always put the business and its
stakeholders first. Miranda will continue to strive for professional gain and profit for the long-term.
The feelings of remorse / guilt / shame that would feel as the villain
The feeling shame that would feel as the villain for Miranda was the powerful and successful
person in runway and fashion industry, but she failure of married life. she was asked for the second
divorce because she gave her entire life for work and be unable to take care of her family. She
revealed her feeling with Andry. She felt disappointed and did not care anyone except her children.
She thought that it was not fair with them because she did not want them to have some scandal and
be paid attention by the others, which was came from her and her husband.
One of the lessons that we have learned from this movie is that we should be fair in any action that
we take to ensure both parties enjoy the actions that has been made. In this movie, what we can
conclude is based organisational behavior took place in many scenes in this movie. Both of Andy and
Miranda was the great representative for the behavior in workplace, which happen in the real life.
Dealing with the ruthless boss is not easy but Andy could solve the problems and found the best way
to make herself be suitable in there, which meant she had high responsibility and great adaptation.
Even though, Miranda seemed to be the dragon lady who obsessed in the career, the worst part of
her life was the married life. She was the good for example that even if she was very successful in
the fashion industry, it did not mean that she would be successful in her family life also. No
perfectionist in this world
