A TALE OF 2 FINALS….WITH VERY

DIFFERENT RESULTS!!!
Asha Brookes only
managed 12th Overall 2011 began officially as Playscape’s Academy took to the track
for the first time with the cadets first as normal.

Bailey Campbell started the season with a bang cruising to an un-

beatable 36 points in qualifying, a massive four point gap to
Karim Haman with Vincent Souillat on grid 3 after a fine burst of
form early on in qualifying, and Rasaan Malcolm Moore making
up the top four. All the talk was of Bailey’s opponent crushing

into the big hairpin.

Suddenly and unexpectedly, the rear end of Campbell’s kart

snaked out under braking, and this let in a gleeful Karim Harman
to take up the lead whilst a clearly frustrated Bailey was on the
wrong side of everything for half a lap, and was passed by the

Now Vincent Souillat took up the chase in 2nd place, whilst Sean
Harper had taken advantage of a messy start to come 9th on the
grid up to an impressive 3rd place. The laps ticked away with
Souillat seemingly unable to call on his superior experience and
put a challenge on the leader.

punched the air having secured his first win at Playscape Acad-
emy, with Vincent Souillat 2nd and Sean Harper 3rd, so good
points in the bag early in the season for these three.

Forgotten man Bailey Campbell trailed in 9th, beating only top

novice and driver of the day Jett Clark, but with all that searing pace,
his time will come again.

Qualifying for the juniors saw Michael Iacovou take his mid sea-
son 2010 form into 2011, with a series of fine wins giving him 34
points and pole position for the final. Alongside him on the grid
Tyler Dougan back
after 6 months off
was James Hart, also 34 points but a bit more consistent than Mi-
chael, defending champion Andre Aguirre Conde in 3rd and sur-
prise packet Billy Cowan 4th on the grid.

Michael’s fast starting technique saw him into a comfortable lead

from lap 1, but we had seen it earlier and watched in horror as
Bailey Campbell’s day had unravelled in dramatic fashion. But
Michael was not to be denied…a trip to race control to look at
Andre Aguirre-Conde
the new trophies for 2011 served as motivation as he drove to
leading Alex Douglas victory in an untroubled manner whilst the boys queued up be-
hind him to settle 2nd place.

James Hart and Andre Aguirre Conde had to give 2nd best to the
smarter tactics of Shane Scott and the sheer determination of
Reece Yusuf as they picked and fought their way to 2nd and 3rd
place respectively, but there was no catching Michael as he
cruised to the finish line to take the honours for the first round of

the B Final in to the
first corner. There was much to admire about this first round.

There was the driving standards with very little contact, the cour-
tesy of the drivers when the penalty board was shown, letting the
offended driver back through within 1 lap, the performance of the
recently refurbished cadet fleet and the attentive attitude shown
by the marshals making sure that each and every driver was satis-

heat 19 awarded to our most long serving member, from boy cadet to
quite the young man now, Billy Cowan.
