Whole to Whole Organization for Comparison and Contrast

Working Thesis:      Thecomparison and contrasting of renting versus owning a place to live is
important because it can show the differences in renting an apartment or house and the
similarities to owning an apartment or house.

Introduction: When renting and/or owning there are factors like responsibilities,costs, and
freedom.

Subject 1:      Renting Responsibilities, costs, and freedom.

Point 1:      When
renting an apartment you have responsibilities to keep like maintaining
property cleanliness and condition, inform when issues arise that could decrease the value of the
property, and pay for misuse of and negligence you may need to repair.

Point 2:      The
average monthly rent cost for a one bedroom apartment in Texas was
estimated to be around $1,011 in 2019.

Point 3:      With renting there is more freedom with things like pets and lease terms(in
some cases).

Subject 2:      Owning responsibilities, costs, and freedom.

Point 1:      With
owning a house there comes many responsibilities. Unlike renting you
have to pay your monthly mortgage payments, pay property taxes, water bill and trash pickup
scheduling, landscaping and gutter cleaning, regular maintenance and home repairs, and pest
control issues.

Point 2: The cost of owning a house depends largely on your property value. If
your property value is $400,000 then you would spend around $1,000 to $1,666 a month
maintaining it. Some monthly payments may be higher or lower than the average you would
normally pay.     

Point 3: Unlike renting you do not have the same freedom with pets and leasing
terms, but you do have the freedom to do what you please to the home following the Home

Association guidelines in the neighborhood like renovating and expansions for the exterior and
interior of the home.

Conclusion:      In
conclusion, there are many differences and similarities when it comes to
renting or owning, but they each have their own pros and cons.
