The Crisis of the Object – l’objet surréaliste

You of course know our surrealist painter Magritte, or at least this painting …

The idea of surrealism is to create a distance with the world “taken for granted”.  So strangeness and
latent sense emerge …. A paradoxical logic based on contraction, hybridization, and
contiguity knocks at the door

Très peu de chose : une contradiction, un déplacement et le monde perd son évidente évidence.
 Retrouver l’étrangeté du monde à l’état naissant;  le monde “pris pour acquis” s’efface au profit
d’une certaine latence du sens …     La logique classique fait place à celle de la contraction, de
l’hybridation,  de la contiguïté, du paradoxe.  Des rapprochements ludiques, insolites, hétéroclites et
légèrement malfaiteurs…

3. Contiguity  and Contraction : linked by smoke …;

Deux objets qui a priori n’ont rien à voir l’un avec l’autre, en tout cas fonctionnellement.  mais ils se
rejoignent par un autre bord (ici la fumée), créant des effets de sens “au rebond” .  Le titre poursuit
cette même logique sur un autre registre (ici le temps) …

Two objects not functionally linked but which share a common feature (smoke) creating new
possibilities of sense making.  The same logic is pushed by the title which add another common
element (time) opening new other possibilities of interpretations.
