Malaysian Publication House (MPH) is a well-known bookstore and has nearly 30 branches

throughout Malaysia. Our group has chosen MPH for this assignment. We visited the
bookstore on 29 June (Saturday) and interviewed the manager, Miss Noramalina.

There is a few aspects based on our interviewed:

(i) Mission, Vision and Core Values

(ii) Information on Units / Departments

MPH Corporate and Services (CLS) is part of the MPH Bookstores Group. There are 4 major
CLS divisions in Malaysia. There are the central division (covering Selangor and Klang
Valley), the Northern division (covering Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Perak), the Sourthern
division (covering Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor) and East Malaysia division
(covering Sabah and Sarawak). With the support of parent company, MPH Bookstores and all
the major publishers MPH able to meet all customers’ needs in corporate purchases and
library services.

(iii) Personnel / Employees; recruitment procedure

MPH has its own way to select their employees. Here are the steps to select employee:

step 1: the employee should fill out the application form and send the application to the MPH

step 2: workers are called to session interviews with branch manager.

step 3: branch manager will send the report and the interview results with the highest (HQ)

step 4: the HQ will review the results and select the eligible employees

step 5: employee is qualified and selected must comply with all the laws that have been
established

(iv) Core business; other related business

MPH Bookstores is a well-established chain of bookstores. It retails books, magazines,

stationery, gifts and greeting cards.

(v)Assets

Building

 This building was completely owned by Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary. The
building is next to the Bank Muamalat Malaysia located at Jalan Langgar, Alor Setar
kedah. Syed Daniel decided to build MPH Souq Albukhary.
Equipment

 MPH provides a space called ‘Lounge’ for their clients for reading such as reading
newspapers, books and so on. students can also complete their assignment there.

Products and Services

 Books

MPH sells products that are books. Books sold are divided into a several types such as
Fictional books, Non-fiction, Islamic, Entertainment, Education and Children books. The
books are high quality and fulfil a customer demands. The books in MPH are sponsored by
Faber Castle, Public Good as well as hotspot and so on.  MPH also have their own brand. the
books are arranged on the shelf provided by type.
Other than that, MPH also sells references and exercises books for students t from standard
one until form 5 .
  Stationery

MPH also provided stationery likes ruler, pens, exam sheet and others.
In addition, MPH also provides customer service in terms of printing, scanning, photocopy,
and banners

MPH provides a place of rest and a place to deposit customers by providing seating and
desks, providing coffee as low as RM5.5 for coffee and RM 4.5 for a tea. Facilities provided
such as a rest room are free of charge.
Visa Payment Counter

Visa payment counter is available for customer to facilitate their pay using debit cards.
Ways and plan to run a socially responsible organisation

Mutiara Minda
mph is also involved in charitable activities. It can be seen in the Mutiara Minda program.
This program involves many affiliates and becomes an organization of different companies.
The program aims to help the less fortunate. This program is used every time celebrating the
celebration of Islam by providing a value of rm10 and will be donated to orphans. Through
this virtue Mph can help a lot of orphans.
MPH Crazy Deals

Every week, MPH will hold a week of crazy deals which books you have selected will be
sold for a price as low as RM5. This is one of the strategies taken by MPH to attract
customers to come visit.
Weekly Bestseller List

Weekly Bestseller List books that received overwhelming response from buyers will be
implemented in a corner. ten of the hottest book in the market will be implemented in the
corner.
Marketing Plan

Products

Mph provides quality and useful books to customers. Provides the necessary books for
customers in relation to external suppliers such as Faber Castel, Good Read and others. Mph
will add more books for the coming time by providing a wide variety of books and angles
according to shop manager planning. Additionally, services improves by providing more
convenience to customers to be more consistent and stable among the sales and services
provided. providing a good infrastructure for the convenience of customers who are in the
store. Adding more items such as stationery sales, learning books and increasing the
promotion of goods in ads.

Price

Mph more provide reasonable price by price and category type. The price charged will be
using the 'MPH CARAZY DEALS' promotion, which will charge you as low as 5 ringgit for
customer's purchase based on the theme and conditions. Additionally, the price of a discount
when the Mutiara Minda program annually provides a discount of 15% to 20%. Mph will
make promotions by setting prices and ads in every corner of the book according to
instructions from the superiors. Affordable prices will be given to students and people who
come.

Promotion

Blog / website

mph uses a website where the use of internet services makes it easy to promote sales. Create
blogs on Facebook and Instagram. MPH also has blog 'mphonline com’. With this blog
making it easy for readers to find books and attract customers to buy books. Additionally, top
best sellers will be updated through media which aims to share with customers about the
attraction of the book.

Flyers / broucher

Mph use flyers and distributing flyers and creating banners to promote merchandise before
being released or advertised. Through flyers can help people who have no networking and
attract the attention of nearby customers to come and buy. Flayer circulation is also updated
into social sites for people's attractions and information about the promotion.

Member card and business card

MPH provides member card where this card is worth rm10 per new registration for one year.
member cards are used for customers to get cheap prices and high discount rates. Card
members make it easier for bulldozers and employees to buy with much strength. In addition,
for business cards, they are used for services such as printing, photocopy and so on. Card
members help to reduce the prices used for the services provided. With card members and
card business make it easier for customers to buy and save the finances of the community.

Insfrastructure

MPH provides a comfortable area for incoming customers. Prepare to read books and work.
The rest area is for the convenience of incoming customers. Additionally, water filter
facilities are provided as well as coffee makers for interested customers. This service is good
at attracting customers to spend their books available. Furthermore, the mph provides chairs
and desks for the discussion of a solitary group of solos. A clean vacuum with air
conditioning makes the comfort of the customer.

Planning future mph

Mph is planning to set up an event carnival where it opens large masses for community and
outsiders. Where this program is known as a book fair. Mph intends to perform as an annual
event and also able to raise the name of MPH as the best bookstore. In addition, mph aims to
improve the better infrastructure infrastructure for incoming customers such as wifi free and
so on. Furthermore, in terms of service, mph hope that the service they design can be
implemented with the addition of new insfrstructures such as printing, and banners. In this
regard, mph also hoped that some time would be filled with stationery requirements to meet
customers with new products. Mph also wants when it has developed books that can be used
and the corners are expanded and attract more customers to visit. In this way, it can increase
the mph's visibility and meet customer requirements.
