Educational Planning and Management

1. Explain the nature and scope of Educational Planning.

Educational planning is one of the vital components in in attaining quality basic
education. Before implementing any programs, projects and activities related to
education, each plan is carefully crafted to the attainment of the department’s mission,
vision and goals. It prioritize the needs of the learners, ladderized planning is done to
identify key priority area of improvements in line with fulfillment of the sustainable
development goals of education. The COVID-19 pandemic is a huge challenge to
education systems. This Viewpoint offers guidance to teachers, institutional heads, and
officials on addressing the crisis. Reassuring students and parents is a vital element of
institutional response. In ramping up capacity to teach remotely, schools and colleges
should take advantage of asynchronous learning, which works best in digital formats. As
well as the normal classroom subjects, teaching should include varied assignments and
work that puts COVID-19 in a global and historical context. In line with this educational
institutions work hand in hand just to be able to give students what they need in this time
of pandemic. Although it is a huge challenge not only with the educational planner it is
also a challenge to both teachers and students, that is why educational planning has a vital
role in the implementation of the ”so called new normal.” Planning, to be effective, must
be concerned with its own implementation-with progress made or not made, with
unforeseen obstacles that arise and with how to overcome them.

2. Explain the types of Educational Planning

Educational planning is the process of setting out in advance, strategies, policies,
procedures, programmes and standard through which an educational objective can be
achieved. There are four major approaches in educational planning.
Curriculum planning is a complex process where faculty define intended
learning outcomes, assessments, content and pedagogic requirements necessary for
student success across an entire curriculum.
Co-curricular refers to activities, programs, and learning experiences that
complement, in some way, what students are learning in school—i.e., experiences that
are connected to or mirror the academic curriculum
Instructional planning is a process of the teacher using appropriate
curricula, instructional strategies, resources and data during the planning process to
address the diverse needs of students.
Institutional planning is a programme of development and improvement
prepared by an educational institution on the basis of its felt needs and the resources
available or likely to be available, with a view to improving the school programme and
school practices.

3. Discuss the approaches of Educational Planning.

Educational planning is concerned with the problems of how to make the best use
of limited resources allocated to education in view of the priorities given to different
stages of education or different sector of education and the need of the economy, there
are three rival approaches to educational planning. The social demand approach, where
resources are acutely limited, and where we are seeking to provide those kinds and
quantities of education which will offer the greatest good to the greatest number, such
planning techniques are best. The Man-Power Requirement Approach, It gives
educators useful guidance on how roughly educational qualifications of the labour force
ought to be developed in the future. That is, the relative proportion of people who would
have primary education, secondary education and various amount of post-secondary
training. Cost-Benefits Analysis of Education, It shows the relationship between the
cost of gaining more education and the increase in payment which results from additional
education.
