In some cases more than one changing line may be encountered and these must. be read and. converted t"ogether in the same tr.igr.am using the same procedune as outlined. You will no doubt encountezr tnfgr.ams with no changing lines and thi:s simply' indicates no change in tlie situation as r.evealed.

The charts of the eight tnigrams and theitt attr.ibutes are located in the back of this book and will be qUite useful

in interpreting the trigrams as you encounter them. Once

you have ann ved at. a trigram :.througlr your. own efforts, refer to the charts and locate the par.t·icula~ trigram you require. Having done this, carefully examine the various areas that the t~igram penta ins to, and locate the ar.ea that applies to your. question or. situatiorr - your answer will be found there.

The~e are many ways atr arriving at, on cast~ng a trigram. However,we will eoncentrate oun study on the Bead Oracle method as this is the easiest and most practical method. Likewise, the Bead Oracle method is alsa one of the oldest and is best suited to the Eanly Heaven Formula as previously discussed.

Some may wonde~ how, if at all the eight tu.igrams are of any use in the ant of divination OF simply finding things out. For this reason, I shall relate to you two interesting situations that were foretold in the trigrams.

Chinese Oracle

Chinese Oracle Beads were believed to be used around )000 B.C. by Chi"nese Mystics who \ITere devout vegetarians for the purpose

of divination using the Ea~ly Heaven Formula previously discussed. Othen non-vegetarian mystics would use oracle bones tro the

same endj howevep these were either. used in the same method

as fon the oracle beads or were heated by a wood fueled fire

\-rhi'ch would cause the individual bones to crack and thus form

a series of cracks similar to one at the eight tr.igrams.

The vegetarian mystics believed that as there was a violent

action in taking any' fomn of animal life, that if they were

to eat the meat or indirectly use the carcass, bones or. other remains of a departed animal (including humans), that they

would be inviting a malevolent energy fore'e into their work

and therefore would have to contend with a spir.it energy ... rhose last earthly existence was in fear, confusion and perhaps in

a state of vengence due to its I untimely sufferi"ng. Understandably, this was considered not to be a su1'table energy force

one would w1sh to rely upon for, any type of. divinatory guidance. I personally believatHis to be so, and perhaps

on my own beliefs and, if you will forgive me, pr.ejudices, teach only the Oracle Bead method. For. those Nishi,ng to

pursue the Oracle Bone method; you may use the bead method

I will discuss, by simply substituting small round pieces

of bone, all obtained fnom the same animal and ideally the

same general area of tne anatomy. Should you be interested

in the Oracle Bone fire method, you may consult your local bookseller or library for works dealing with ancient chinese mystical practices which will no doubt detail this practice.

To begin, you must first obtain sixteen round or square beads made fnom any dark wood, measuring anywhere from one-half

inch to one inch. They must all be the same size, texture and appvoximately the same weight. You \'lill also require four

small cont~iners of acrylic cr.aft paint in the colours of black, red, white and light blue. A paint. brush should also

be obtained if you don't have one and a sm3ll cloth marble drawstring bag would be an ideal home for the beads ~~en

~hen you're not using them, but please be sure it's cloth.

Take seven beads and carefully paint them completely black. Fainiting these seven beads black will ensure that these beads have the lar.gest concentration and reception of Yin energy

as opposed to all the others. These black.beads will represent the unchanging enengy force of Yin, the Female Element.

Take one bead and carefully paint it completely red.

Painting this single bead red ensures that it has an equal amount of Yin and Yang energy, therefore it repr.esents the changing energy fon~e of Yin, the Female Element. Remember, the dank wood already has Yin energy, while the Red paint has Yang ener.gy.

Take five beads and carefully paine them completely white. Painting these five beads \~ite \nll ensure that these beads have the largest concentration and reception of Yang energy

as opposed to all the others. These white beads will r.epresent the unchanging enengy force of Yang, the Male Element.

Take three beads and carefully paint them completely light blue. Fainting these three beads light blue will ensure that they have an equal amount of Yang and Yin energy, therefore representing the changing energy fonee of Yang, the Male Element.

In some cases the beads may require an additional co~t of paint and uhis should only be attempted a/ten the first coat has thoroughly dried. l,'lhen you have finished ps frrt fng your beads, you should pemni:t them to dry thor.oughly and leave them for approximately seven days, so that the dark wood becomes climatized tro the interaction the paint has on its' energy field before attempting to use the. beads.

Having penmitted the climitization period to take its' course, you should now place the beads in a small cloth bag or. pouc~ The colour of the bag is up to your own personal taste, but should be of a solid colour and as previously mentioned should be made of cloth and not vinyl, plastic, leather or any other. matel"ial. ·I'lhen not in use, the pouch should be stored in a private place, such as a dresser drawer or other suitable place out of the way of curious fniends, relatives, servants or house guests.
