Teaching Philosophy

The most important thing to me as a teacher is that every student will get an equal and
individualized opportunity to excel in physical education class. For this to be possible I will
always be engaged with the students, I will learn about my children’s strengths and
weaknesses, and I will do it with a smile on my face. This will allow me to create a bond with
the students and help me create an individualized plan with my students.

When I am teacher, I will be energetic, have a routine, and be supportive. Why would a
student be motivated if the teacher is not motivated? When I am a teacher, I am going to be
even more energetic than the students. When I was in high school, I never wanted to leave the
physical education classroom. I had good role models as teachers and they always had me
leaving the classroom wanting more. That is why I went to physical education class on my free
period, lunch period, and my regularly scheduled physical education class time. When I am a
physical education teacher I want all my students to have the same attitude that I have and that
is going to happen when I show up to class with a smile on my face and motivation to teach the
students. When I am a physical education teacher, I will also have a routine. This routine will
make sure the students are prepared for class and ready to learn. I will make sure to remind all
the student they should come to class in proper footwear and attire to be active the next class.
This routine will also include taking attendance and giving the children a proper warm up for
the activities to come. When I become a physical education teacher, I will also be supportive.
Whether the student is having trouble in a new activity or an old activity I will be there to go
through the cues and help them get back on track. I will encourage them to do their best and
support them in any sport they desire help in. If there is a problem outside of the P.E. classroom
that is not related to sport, I will also be supportive and get them the correct guidance they
need in that situation.

Assessment is also important in the P.E. classroom and it helps teachers become more
accurate when helping a student struggling with a skill. Assessment also helps teachers see how
much a student has grown and improved over time. When I become a teacher, I will use
assessments to make sure my individual students are on the right track and understanding the
correct cues. Giving my students assessments will allow myself as a teacher to help them in the
areas that they need help on and the areas they excel in to excel even more.

I don’t believe that race, background, skill level, gender, or social class will affect my
physical education classroom. I will create a nonbiased classroom environment that all my
students will be able to have a multitude of opportunities to improve and excel in the activity
we are working on. As a teacher you will come across different styles of learning and
progression, so I will make sure my students will have opportunities to work with students at
the same level, so they feel comfortable. I will also make sure my students have opportunities
to work with students above their skill level so they can learn from other students and get a
sense of what higher skill looks and feels like.

As a future physical education teacher, I will make sure my students feel comfortable in
the classroom and have multiple opportunities to learn, assess, and improve. Teaching is not
only important to my life but it is also important for the future generations of physical fitness
and sport. I want to prepare my students to be knowledgeable and healthy throughout their
lifetime.
