New Technologies Emerging Poultry
Industry.
New technologies emerging in the
poultry industry have brought a
technological revolution. Farmers have
farmed poultry for over 4,000 years.
The industry has undergone a
tremendous shift in the methods and
technologies used to meet the
demands of the market.
Egg sexing

Farmers in the egg-laying industry must

incubate and hatch some eggs to replace
laying hens. Chick sexing or egg sexing is
the method of distinguishing the sex of
poultry animals. Egg sexing is one of the
new technologies emerging in the
poultry industry.
Genetic modification technology in the poultry
industry

Gene alteration is one of the new

technologies emerging in the poultry
industry to determine the sex of the
embryo. The genes of the hen are modified.
The male eggs laid with a bio-luminescent
marker can be detected after lay using an
optical sensor.

Augmented reality

 Augmented reality, commonly referred to as AR technology is an

interactive experience where the objects residing in the real-world
are enhanced using computer technology.

 The technology has many uses in poultry processing.

Georgia Tech has been recently trailing two systems at a
processing plant.
Laser-scanner system

This system employs a laser-

scanner in a fixed location close to
the line to project trimming
instructions directly onto the
product. The number of new
equipment to be installed is also a
few.
Virtual reality

 Virtual Reality (VR) involves

creating a simulated
environment using computer
technology. It immerses users
in a new and controlled
environment. It has several
applications in the poultry
industry.
Training line workers in the poultry
industry using VR

Virtual reality can be employed

to train line workers on how to
trim meat, move through a
room without disturbing the
birds, and how to check the
poultry animals.
Virtual reality headsets for chickens

Virtual reality headsets

placed on chickens allow
them to enjoy the free-
range life wherever they
are, even if they live safely
in an urban facility.
Virtual reality provides a virtual tour

 Virtual reality can also

be used in the poultry
industry to provide
users with a virtual tour
of a line or facility. It
gives an unprecedented
amount of
transparency.
