Classroom Layout & Rationale

Classroom Layout
Classroom Rationale

If I am being perfectly honest with where I got the idea to set up this classroom layout, I
have to say that most of the inspiration comes from my honors sophomore English and AP
juniors English class that I had the same teacher for both of them. The main inspiration that I got
from those classes are the setup of the desks and whiteboards. When I sat in this kind of set up, it
was easy for other students and I to be in groups of 6. While that may seem like a large number,
everyone was still able to get their opinion/statement across when we had to do group
discussions. If someone didn’t have the opportunity to speak up, we made sure to include them.
I included the teacher’s desk at the back of the class in the middle because I feel it is a
good view to have over all of the views throughout the class. The computers are tucked in the
back corner of the classroom so that they aren’t causing too much of a distraction when they are
not being used. They will not be turned on in class if students will not need to use them during
that period. They will require permission and login information from me if they need to use it.
The round table by the teacher’s desk will be used for trays where students can hand in
any assignments that need to be given on the due date. It’ll also be more convenient for it to be
next to the teacher’s desk so it can be easy access and the teacher can grab and go. The storage
cabinet next to the round table would be used for school supplies and snacks as well as drinks
that students can access with permission should they ever need anything. The fridge, which
would be a mini fridge, also applies to having food and/or drinks for students that may need it.
The shelves that are set up on either side of the whiteboard will be filled with books that
students can borrow from time to time for either assignments or for leisure reading. There will be
popular books that applies to the certain age group, and there will also be books of my personal
liking that the students may like as well.
As far as the whiteboards go, there will be one in between the shelves that will be
considered the main whiteboard that I will use to jot down ideas and notes/objectives for the
lesson/curriculum being taught. This is where the projector also comes in because it can be used
for the main whiteboard and it’ll prove to be productive for PowerPoint presentations and such.
The whiteboards on both sides of the classroom will be used for when students are in groups and
need to write down ideas and notes to present to the class after they are done working together.
There is a TV that will be placed in the right corner of the classroom to be used in case
there are days when students may want to watch any films. I also included a beanbag chair on the
left corner of the classroom in case there is a time where a student might need to relax. The area
where the beanbag chair sits will be considered the “stress-free” zone where students can sit
when we are having work time during class. The circle rug is simply for decoration.
