Major Requirements:
Complete as many lower division major requirements as possible. See details on preparation for this major below.
REQUIREMENTS
PREPARATION FOR TRANSFER AT THE JUNIOR LEVELREQUIREMENTS
Admission to UC Berkeley with the stated intent to major in Psychology does not guarantee acceptance into the major. A
departmental application is required and prerequisites must be met. Completion of IGETC certification does not correspond to the
completion of the lower-division prerequisites required by the Psychology major.
2. Transfer students must apply to the major before they begin their
second semester at UC Berkeley to be guaranteed admission to the
major. Major declaration information and forms are available on the
UC Berkeley Psychology website.
Psychology 1
The Psychology 1 requirement may also satisfied by a score of 4 or better on the AP Psychology exam or a score of 5 or better on the
IBHL exam.
If enrollment in a lab is optional, the lab is not required for this major.
The Biological Science requirement may be satisfied by a score of 4 or 5 in the AP Biology exam or a score of 5 or better on the IBHL
exam. Students are still responsible for completing another Biological Science course to satisfy this requirement.
One of the Social Science requirements may be satisfied by a score of 4 or 5 on the AP US Government or Comparative Government
exam. Students will be required to complete the second social science course from a department other than Political Science.
Only one introductory statistics course (Stat 2, 20 or 21) may be used to satisfy the requirement as these courses are credit restricted
at UC Berkeley.
NOTE: Different options may be available for satisfying certain requirements. Consult with the advisor in the Psychology department.
