Once Saved, Always Saved?

A Question regarding this verse: John 17:12 “While I was with them, I kept them
in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them
has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.”
(John 17:12 NJKV)
Is it not true that the hope of every Born Again Christian is that once we accept
Christ Jesus, we are never lost. But, perhaps this verse and other like verses only
applied to the 12 disciples and not to all Christians. Maybe the question; “ Is there
a difference between those who walked as disciples with Jesus and those who
follow Him today. Are all Christians His until He returns, whenever that might be.
In addition to that verse quoted above, consider the following verses, would one
agree that Jesus is talking about all those who accept his Grace and Mercy through
His shed Blood and Promise of Return:
John 18:9 “was to fulfill the word that he had spoken: “Of those whom you gave
me I have lost not one.”
John 6:39 "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I
lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.
John 10:27-28 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I
give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out
of my hand.
John 17:2 “you have given him (Jesus) authority over all flesh, to give eternal life
to all whom you have given him.”
John 6:37 “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me
I will never cast out.
John 17:6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of
the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your
word.
John 17:11 “And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am
coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me,
that they may be one, even as we are one.
It would seem that a promise of Jesus to one disciple is a promise to all disciples
and while we will fail Him in our daily walk, He will never fail us, He will never
leave us and He will save us from ourselves.
Yet, consider this Scripture in Hebrews 6:

Hebrews 6:4-6 "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have
tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have
tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall
away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves
the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame." Hebrews 6:4-6 NKJV

It is apparent and seems pretty cut and dry that if you have come to Christ and
then, by your own desire and by your own volition turn from or manifestly reject
Christ and deny Him and deny the Holy Spirit, then would be correct to say that
the door on eternal life with Christ has been shut?

This would go along with “The Unpardonable Sin”: Mark 3:28-30:

“Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever
blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never
has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”— because they said, “He
has an unclean spirit.” Mark 3:28-30 NKJV

It is not inconceivable for someone to actually do this, but apparently many people
have chosen to “go over to the dark forces” (Eph 6:10-17) and in that case, yes, a
person who was saved would not be always saved. Now this must be qualified as
to what we are truly trying to understand regarding our salvation.

Does this must go to “works” and working your way to salvation and on the other
side, doing works which make you lose your salvation? Are not the two are quite
mutually exclusive. Maybe it more at losing one’s salvation through sin for I was
saved while in sin and will not lose my salvation should and when I sin again. See
1 John 1:8-10: “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make
Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8-10 NKJV

So, while I may knowingly sin and then ask forgiveness, Christ forgives. But in
Hebrews 6:4-6, we are talking about an individual who has not lost his salvation
but willing gives it up, an actual overt act and denial of the Love and Grace of
Christ Jesus. He then comes under the penalty of the unpardonable sin of
blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. He has expressly divorced himself from the
fellowship of Christ and the blame and path is his own.
This is somewhat that which is expressed in 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12: “The coming
of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and
lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish,
because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And
for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,
that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in
unrighteousness. “ 2 Thes 2:9-12 NKJV

In this passage, we read of the person who hears the Truth, understands the Truth
and rejects the Truth (Christ) that they may be saved will be sent a delusion and are
condemned. This denial of the truth (Christ) was a conscious overt act of
denial and Blasphemy.

But, a person who sins does not outwardly reject Christ Jesus and he is, therefore, a
sinner saved by grace, in spite of himself. However, the person who outwardly
rejects Jesus, once having received Him is just plain stupid and lost forever.

So, by this circular reasoning, there will be an actual “falling away” from the body
of Christ just prior to and during the reign of the Antichrist and these folks will
choose this path and destination and get exactly what they want and deserve.
