DECEMBER 2-3, 2020
AT STONEBRIDGE SCHOOL
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Welcome to the StoneBridge School Fall Show - Dorothy in Wonderland. A
combination of The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland, this show is a fun
twist on the stories we all know and love. The play was written by a former
English Literature teacher and includes many of the elements only found in
the text versions of these popular narratives. The intertwining of the story
lines is done in an amusing way. The Lion, emboldened by his new courage,
tries to break up a fight between Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. The
DIRECTOR Scarecrow is tormented by the Mad Hatter and March Hare, who at first
Amanda meeting don't seem to have brains. The Tin Man's new heart is tested several
times as he interacts with the ruthless King and Queen of Hearts. Dorothy and
Ironmonger
Alice become partners - helping one another get home. Even Glinda and the
Wizard make their way to Wonderland, trying to help when and where they
can.
In the final scene, Glinda says, "Sometimes it's better to take the journey
than to simply skip to the end." That line, at the end of what has been a
tumultuous and challenging year, touches my heart every time I hear it. This
year, 2020, has not relented in providing us with opportunities to wish
moments were different, to hope situations change soon, and to revel in
moments that once upon a time we would have called mundane or boring.
James 1:2-4 says, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of
various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces
steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be
perfect and complete, lacking in nothing" (ESV). Dorothy and Alice grow in
appreciation, strength, contentment, peace, and fulfillment through their
journeys in Wonderland. Perhaps our journeys through 2020 hold similar
lessons. Just as the girls learned the importance of reflecting on past
moments, rather than wishing they didn't happen, may we too look to God for
the lessons our journeys are teaching us.
