Indraugnir (Dragon)

History
The First War Against Chaos
The Dragon Indraugnir is called the greatest of the Dragons, and was the
companion and mount of the first Phoenix King of the Asur, Aenarion the
Defender.

Indraugnir was first mentioned being introduced to Aenarion in the year IC

-4499 in the second year of the Phoenix King’s reign, where the dragon
agrees to become Aenarion’s steed. One of their first flights together was
to the Anvil of Vaul with the mage Caledor Dragontamer, to request the
forging of arms and armour for the Princes of the Asur, and together,
leading the Dragonriders of Caledor, and the reformed High Elven army,
fought back the Daemonic Hordes.

After the death of the Everqueen Astarielle wife of Aenarion, and mother of
his two children, Yvraine and Morelion, both of whom were lost amid the
devastation in Averlorn, Indraugnir and Aenarion flew to the Blighted Isle,
on which resided the Altar of Khaine, the keeping place of the Sword of
Khaine. They were attacked by winged daemons, as the Chaos Gods
recognised the threat that such a weapon placed to their forces. When
they failed, the gods Chaos Gods themselves spoke to Aenarion, warning
him of his folly. It was said that even the ghost of his wife, Astarielle, asked
him to turn back, but he knew only revenge, and anger, and Aenarion drew
the Sword of Khaine.

When Indraugnir and Aenarion returned, nothing could stand before them,
and yet another short respite was won. However, the curse that came with
the Sword of Khaine was already starting to manifest itself – and Caledor
Dragontamer left Aenarion’s Court in Nagarythe, along with his
Dragonriders. However, the Daemon’s once again attacked Ulthuan, and
Caledor began the ritual to siphon away the winds of magic, and with no
choice left but to defend his former friend, Aenarion took the High Elven
army to the Isle of the Dead.

It was at this point when the four Greater Daemon’s commanding the
daemon host attacked Aenarion and Indraugnir. Aenarion slew the Lord of
Change and the Keeper of Secrets, but it was only the cleansing flame of
Indraugnir’s breath that saved Aenarion from the Great Unclean One, but
the Bloodthirster of Khorne took advantage of the opening to land a mortal
blow the dragon and breaking Aenarion’s arm. However, the Sword of
Khaine cut the Bloodthirster in two.

Dying, Indraugnir took one last flight to the Blighted Isle – although the
great dragon did not survive to see Aenarion thrust the Sword of Khaine
back into the Altar. After the deed was done, it was said that Aenarion lay
down beside Indraugnir, and died – although the body of neither was
found.
