Artifact #3 - SECONDARY LESSON PLAN

Standards:

Standard 1: Learner Development—The teacher understands how learners grow and develop,

recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the

cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and design

ns and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.

Standard 5: Application of Content—The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use

differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative

problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.

CCSD Standards for English 11 high school:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.WHST.11-12.1.c

concerns, values, and possible biases.

Observable objective:

Students will be able to arrange an understandable paragraph.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.WHST.11-12.1. d

Establish and maintain a formal style and objective tone while attending to the norms and

Observable objective:

Students will be able to apply a formal language in the paragraph.

Specific objective of the lesson:

Students must be able to understand and create a paragraph before they begin to start working in

a formal essay.

Material/equipment:

Students must have a pencil/pen, paper, handouts: Writing a Paragraph: The seven-step solution,

Write the First draft, Write the Final, YouTube video, How to Write a Good Paragraph,

classroom board, and internet access for extra information for the students

Instruction- learning Process:

Do first: Write down the warm up in the classroom board; Freewriting: Think and write down a

topic that you like and write down any ideas that you have about your topic in a paper sheet. (5

minutes)

Mini-lesson: Review ideas from the warm up; ask students to lift their hand if they want to read

and give a small presentation of the topic, they chose on their warm up (In case no one lifts his

hand pick two students randomly). Upon the presentations of the student(s), show the next

YouTube video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1J9ZPVydrc( How to Write a Good

3

a paragraph consolidated. After the explanation ask questions to the students to make sure they

do not have any doubts about paragraphs. (30 minutes)

Guided Practice: Hand the next paper to the students: Writing a Paragraph: The seven-step

solution, read the last paper and explain it to students, make sure students are paying attention by

asking question related to it. (15 minutes)

Independent Practice: Hand the main assignment: Write the First draft. Once handed read the

instructions and let the students begin doing their work. During the activity ask students if they

have doubts and in case is there any doubt address it, if students do not ask any questions walk

by the rows of students and check how each one is doing (Do this every time in a while), during

that walk make sure every student is working efficiently but don not over involve on their

work.(45 minutes)

Exit-slip: Stand in the middle of the classroom and ask in general to the classroom if they

understood what a paragraph is about, and what they learned, then make at least two students

answer those questions, after that hand out students the homework: Write the Final copy Edit of

your draft, and explain them what is it about, also remember students that they can check internet

if the need more information about how to do their homework.(5 minutes)

Reflection

On my secondary lesson plan assignment, I was able to achieve different goals. This secondary

lesson is meant to be used in English 11 class, the purpose of it was to teach students how to

make proper paragraphs with simplicity. The lesson is meant for classrooms with mixed kinds of

learnings, because on it I addressed to the three different learnings (Auditory, Visual and

Kinesthetic). Personally, I consider that this lesson is very engaging, because it is meant for the

teacher to be involved with students, to make students more participative. On it I was

successfully able to address the necessities of the different students that I might have. Also, on it

I was able to make it simple, so a substitute teacher could give that lesson with no issue. Lastly

one of flaws that it might have, is the fact that it requires the teacher to be very involved with the

student, which might be too complicate for the teacher because he might not be able to address

all the students at the same time.
