4 INSTALLATION STEPS

Windows XP Professional With Service Pack 2/3 Operating System


Install MS SQL Server 2000 Database
Install Internet Explorer 7 Browser
Have the installation folder of
c8bimodel_win32_8.4.18.27_ml
c8bisrvr_win32_8.4.18.27_ml – BI Server Install
c8bisamples_mp_win32_8.4.18.27_ml - Sample Database

Install MS SQL Server 2000 Database


Click next and complete the install. SQL Server Installed Properly
Install the Service Pack also kept in the SQL2KSP4 folder by clicking on setup.exe

Create Content Store Database: Give Database Name as : ContentStore instead of crn as
mentioned below

Create Database: GOSL (Steps mentioned above)

Create Database: GORT (Steps mentioned above)


Create LOGIN in the SQL Database
Install Cognos BI Modeling: c8bimodel_win32_8.4.18.27_ml Folder

Click on Setup
Accept the default Folder
Click Next and the Installation Process will begin. Accept all the defaults

Installation process will complete

Install the Cognos Server: c8bisrvr_win32_8.4.18.27_ml – BI Server Install


Install it in the Default Folder and Click Next
Installation completed. Accept all the default Values

Install the Cognos Samples = c8bisamples_mp_win32_8.4.18.27_ml


Click next

Click: YES

Click Next and go through the all the defaults till successful completion

After the Successful Installation you are going to get the following installed.

Start – All Programs

IBM Cognos Configuration


Map Manager
Framework Manager

Click on Start – All Programs – Cognos Configuration

Go to the Data Access Section and delete the IBM Default Content Store under “Content
Manager” (Right Click and Delete) and add a New” ContentStore”
Click on Action
You should see this
Click OK
Click on Continue
Services Started Succesfully

Install the Cognos Sample Database


c8bisamples_mp_win32_8.4.18.27_ml

Unzip the zipped files located al the following location

C:\Program Files\cognos\c8\webcontent\samples\datasources\sqlserver
Install the WEB Server Parameters

You need to have IIS Installed in your operating System. You can use the Add/Remove
Components in the Control Panel to install IIS Server. Once done then do the following
steps.
Instead if crn as mentioned type Cognos in the Alias Section

Go in Control Panel – Services and see if all the services are running – IIS Admin
Service, IBM Cognos 8,

Next Step is to Import the Cognos sample package

Copy the Deployment zip files to the deployment folder


C:\Program Files\cognos\c8\webcontent\samples\content\Cognos_Samples.zip

Deployment
should look
like this
After that type: Login to Cognos8
Start up Cognos. Go to Cognos Connection. Enter the following link
http://localhost/cognos8/

Click on Administer IBM Cognos Content


Import the Sample in Cognos Connection

Click on IBM Cognos Administration and then click on Content Administration on


the left hand side
Click on New Import Tab
Click next
Select all the folders click Next
Click Run
After successful run go to your home page. You should see all the folders and click
on “My Home” link
Steps to create Create Data Source
Click on Data Source Connection
Click on New Data Source Button on the top right hand side
Enter a name of datasource: Great_outdoor_sales
Add the following parameters: server Name: local Host
Application Name: GOSL
Signon- User id = sa
Enter userid = sa
Password = sa

Click Test Connection


Click Close 2
times to
return to the
screen with
the “Test the
connection”
link.
