Brief Introduction

Why do we communicate? Aren’t you asking yourself why you do you

communicate? Can you last a day without talking or communicating?
Communication functions in five different purposes. Our lives are filled with
day to day communication. Without knowing it, we are adhering to the
different functions of communication. Each communication has a particular
purpose why we are doing such.

There are five functions of communication that we use in our daily

communication.

1. Control – communication can control the behavior of individuals, their

attitude and responses to different stimuli given by people around
2. Social Interaction – it is the most common function of communication. It
allows individuals to interact with each other
3. Motivation – communication can be used to uplift one’s view of life. It
motivates people to stand up and continue with their lives
4. Emotional Expression – through communication, one can express his or
her feelings and emotions
5. Information Dissemination – communication functions to deliver
information from one person to another

Let’s Analyze

The news that Metro Manila was placed under MECQ sells like
hotcake. It was the talk of the town. However, there so many fake news
being spread by some individuals who just want to make themselves and
their ideas known in social media. The people were confused which news
should they believe in. Information dissemination is needed but fake ones
should be discouraged.

When you spread fake news, do you use the function of communication
that information should be disseminated? Why? Why not? Is it right to share fake
news on Facebook?
