1.INTRODUCTION TO RAWAL INSTITUTIONS

The Rawal Institutions of engineering and technology affiliated to MaharshiDayanandaUniversity

gave us a letter to respective company for industrial training. The main aim of industrial training
was to develop the mind of student in such a practical way. I want to say thank you to our college
and university for giving such a great opportunity.

Actually the industrial training helps student to know the external and practical knowledge in the
best way. Students can know their future earlier than they go after the completion of bachelor in
technology degree from the respective universities of colleges. In our context, Rawal Institutions
of engineering and technology gave us a great opportunity to make our practical future bright as
giving the name industrial training. In our case industrial training held in final semester.

I have completed my last semester industrial training from Gautam Buddha international airport.

3. Overview

The Client of this Project is CAAN (Civil Aviation Authority of

Nepal,Nepali: नेपालनागरिकउड्डयनप्राधिकरण), an independent Nepali government body since

1998, is headquartered in Kathmandu

The CAAN began in 1957 as an agency under what was the MinistryofWork,

CommunicationsandTransport. On 31 December 1998, as a result of the Civil Aviation Act of
1996, the CAAN was established as an independent regulatory body. It is the board which issues
new pilot licenses, renews licenses and convert the licenses through various tests.

The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Division investigates aircraft accidents and
incidents. However, as of September 2017, the GovernmentofNepal is trying to establish an
independent aircraft accident investigation unit in order to comply with
the InternationalCivilAviationOrganization's regulations. The committee, which is formed after
individual accidents is only temporary and often criticized for a lack of results.

There was a minor scandal in September and October 2017, when the MinistryofCulture,
TourismandCivilAviation transferred the director general of the agency, SanjivGautam, to the
ministry itself, which was considered an attempt of sacking him. The ElectionCommission revoked
this move, as it saw a "a breach of the election code of conduct.”

The agency's annual report lists the following main tasks:

 Issuance of Airworthiness Certificate and License, Rating and Certificate to aviation

personnel
 Safety Oversight of Aviation Service Provider Organizations
 Issuance of Technical Regulations like Civil Aviation Requirements, Directives, Manuals,
Advisory Circulars etc.
 Certification of Aerodromes
 Construction, Operations and Management of aerodromes
 Provide Air Navigation Services except Aviation Meteorology
 Advise Government of Nepal on Civil Aviation Matter

China’s Northwest Civil Aviation Airport Construction Group can continue its work at Gautam
Buddha Airport in Bhairahawa, an official at the civil aviation authority of Nepal told this daily.

Asian Development Bank temporarily suspended NCAACG after its preliminary investigation
discovered that the Chinese contractor produced a number of fake documents that it reportedly
obtained from Sudan to meet the qualifications for an International Competitive Bidding for GBA
expansion project in accordance with ADB guidelines.

CAAN’s Deputy Director General DevanandUpadhyay, who supervises the Rs 6.22-bn project,
said the ‘temporarily suspended’ Chinese company would continue its work at GBA as per the
ADB’s written instruction to the aviation regulatory body. “There is no need for a separate
investigation into this matter, as CAAN awarded GBA contract to NCAACG in October,” he
added.

CAAN’s move, however, surprises the stakeholders who termed the ADB’s guidelines might be
encouraging fraud contractors. How a ‘fraud’ firm could be allowed to continue work, a senior
official at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation wondered.

Fearing that a thorough probe might bring to light CAAN officials’ involvement in verifying the
bidding documents, CAAN decided to fully abide by the ADB’s instruction to let the fraud firm
continue its project activities, a senior CAAN executive told THT. “It gives the impression that
ADB’s policy is to reward fraud,” he added.

Kenichi Yokoyama, ADB’s Country Director for Nepal, however, said action against Northwest
was taken as per ADB’s anti-corruption policy. “ADB never rewards a fraudulent party, while its
anti-corruption policy requires all bidders, suppliers and contractors under ADB-financed projects
observe the highest standard of ethics during the procurement and execution of contracts,” he told
this daily.

ADB’s Procurement Guidelines updated in April state that it will sanction a firm or an individual,
at any time, in accordance with ADB’s Anti-corruption Policy and Integrity Principles and
Guidelines, including declaring it ineligible, either indefinitely or for a stated period of time, to
participate in ADB-financed or ADB-administered activities or to benefit from an ADB-financed or
ADB-administered contract, financially or otherwise, if at any time it determines that the firm or
individual has, directly or through an agent, engaged in corrupt, fraudulent, collusive, coercive or
other prohibited practices.
16
Aviation officials recounted that ADB-funded $ 4.2 million Air Transport Capacity Enhancement
Project had already hit a snag due to failure of timely commissioning of the meteorological
equipment — runway visual range and ceilometers — at Tribhuvan International Airport.

According to them, an Abbreviate Precision Approach Path Indicator worth millions of rupees,
which was installed at Tenzing-Hillary airport in Lukla under the ATCEP in 2012, can also be seen
lying beside the runway in a state of disuse (as per airport officials its warranty has expired without
ever being used).

According to Ministry of Finance statistics, ADB portfolio in Nepal consists of 38 projects and
programmes amounting to about $1.95 billion. “Over 56 per cent of the projects have not
commenced, resulting in at least 73 per cent of total committed amount remaining unused,” MoF
officials said, adding that the actual progress regarding ADB-funded projects just stood at less than
14 per cent. The bank stated that ADB assistance to Nepal totalled $22.9 billion, including co-
financing of $9.2 billion since 1996.

5. BACKGROUND
Gautam Buddha Airport (GBA) is located in Bhairahawa, the mid-western region of Nepal at four
kilometers from the district headquarters, Rupandehi, at an altitude of 109 meters above sea
level. The GBA Master plan was initially conceptualized by the Civil Aviation Authority ofAviation
Authority of Nepal (CAAN) in the year 2006 with the motto to improve its aviation service and
facilities, as per the ICAO countries standard to develop a regional International airport with the
standard alike to International Airport, Kathmandu. This would enable Nepal to provide more air
seats capacity for visitors, thus helping to increases current load and volume of travelers. The
master plan was updated through the Asian Development Bank (ADB) PPTA– RET 6504 in
FY2009/10. The upgraded master plan envisaged construction of new 2,600 x 45 m runway in
GBA with runway stripe of 3,000 x 300m with improvements in services facilities and terminal
buildings for both International and Domestic uses. Later CAAN modified the master plan with
extension of the new runway from 2,600x45m to 3,000x45m and a runway stripe of 3,202x300m
for landing of ICAO 4E standard aircrafts. The master plan was again updated the under Project
(ADB Loan 2579/Grant 0179) in 2012. The updated master plan was revisited, and a concept paper
for additional financing of the project has been prepared, which intends to

(i) increase the existing runway to a total of 3,000 meter by diverting Ghagra River

(a small seasonal river which discharges in Tinau River) and public road

(ii) raise height of the new runway by a meter above the floodplain

17
(iii) construct a new international terminal building of 15,169 sq m
(iv) develop international aircraft apron with a capacity to park 3 wide-body
aircrafts
(v) add instrument landing system.

25
Fig.3 control tower building

Air traffic control (ATC) is a service provided by ground-based controllers who direct aircraft on
ground and through controlled airspace, and can provide advisory service to aircraft in non-
controlled air space. The primary purpose of ATC is worldwide is to prevent collision, organize
andexpedite the flow of air traffic, and provide information and other supports to pilots. In some
countries ATC plays a security or defensive role, or is operated by military.

To prevent collision, ATC enforces traffic separation rules, which ensures each aircraft maintain a
minimum amount of empty space around it at all the times. Many aircraft also have collision
avoidance systems, which provide additional safety by warning pilots when other aircraft get to
close.

It is ten storey building and only upto 3 rd floor has been completed. It is targeted to complete
building structure in oct 2018.

Fig.5.. International Terminal Building

An airport terminal is a building at an airport. It is where passengers are able to get on and

off aircraft. Inside the terminal, passengers can buy tickets, leave or pick up their luggage, and be
checked by security staff. The buildings that provide access to the airplanes through gates are
usually called concourses. However, the words "terminal" and "concourse" are sometimes used to
mean the same thing. Small airports have only one terminal, while large airports can have several
terminals and/or concourses. At small airports, the single terminal building usually has all of the
functions of a terminal and a concourse.

The total area of under constructing ITB is 9300 m 2 . In this area it is divided into
2 parts ie. Arrival Part and Departure Part. It is 3 storey Building including Truss Roof on top of
building. An airport terminal is a building at an airport. It is where passengers are able to get on and

36
9.1.4 Electric sub station
A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system.
Substations transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse, or perform any of several other
important functions. Between the generating station and consumer, electric power may flow
through several substations at different voltage levels. A substation may include transformers to
change voltage levels between high transmission voltages and lower distribution voltages, or at the
interconnection of two different transmission voltage.

Fig: Concreting for Plinth Beam.

37
Substations may be owned and operated by an electrical utility, or may be owned by a
large industrial or commercial customer. Generally substations are unattended, relying on
SCADA for remote supervision and control.

The word substation comes from the days before the distribution system became a grid. As
central generation stations became larger, smaller generating plants were converted to
distribution stations, receiving their energy supply from a larger plant instead of using their
own generators. The first substations were connected to only one power station, where the
generators were housed, and were subsidiaries of that power station.
Total area of sub station building is 600m2 and is of only a Ground floor. It is 100 m far
from ITB building to North West side.

38
Fig: Electric Sub-station building.

9.2 AIRFIELD

LABORATORY:-

Quality control, or QC for short, is a process by which entities review the quality of all
factors involved in production. ISO 9000 defines quality control as "A part of quality
management focused on fulfilling quality requirements".

Quality control emphasizes testing of products to uncover defects and reporting

to management who make the decision to allow or deny product release, whereas quality
assurance attempts to improve and stabilize production (and associated processes) to
avoid, or at least minimize, issues which led to the defect(s) in the first place.[citation
needed] For contract work, particularly work awarded by government agencies, quality
control issues are among the top reasons for not renewing a contract.

Others:

1. VIBRATING MACHINE(VIBRATOR)

Vibrators are commonly used as a way of compacting concreteon sites. In case of

vibration, compacting gets effected by reduction in internal frictionbetween various particlesof
concrete due to oscillation of particles which results in dense and compact mass of concrete.

55
2. TOTAL STATIONS

Total station is a surveying equipment combination of electromagnetic storage system. This

instrument can be used to measure horizontal and vertical angles as well as sloping distance of

object to the instrument.distance measuring instrument and electronic theodolite. It is also

integrated with microprocessor, electronic data Collector.

3.LEVEL MACHINE:

56
Automatic level is an optical instrument used to establish or verify points in the same
horizontal plane. It is used in surveying and building with a vertical staff to measure height
differences and to transfer, measure and set heights.

CONCLUSION:
In review this internship has been an excellent and rewarding experience. I have been able
to meet and network with so many people that I am sure will be able to help me with
opportunities in the future. One main thing that I have learned through this internship is
time management skills as well as self- motivation.

It was a wonderful learning experience at Gautam Buddha international project site of

training for 4 months in Rupandehi,Nepal. I gained a lot of insight regarding almost every
aspect of site. I was given exposure in almost all the department of sites. The friendly
welcome for all employees and giving their peace of wisdom which they have gained in
long journey of work. I am very much thankful for the wonderful accommodations
facilities from Gautam Buddha airport project office. I hope this experience will surely
help me in the future and also in shaping my carrier.

 The training is an important course because it closes the gap between the scientific study
and and practical study.
 Learning you how to deal with other.
 Finding the team work is the most important element in every successful project.
 Learned you that the civil engineer is capable of a lot of work such as supervision,
implementation, the calculation of quantities, and design engineering and in future can
work as a consultant and contractor.
 Learning you how to control and manage the site and how behaves when their problems by
take as a professional decision.
 Plan must be clear and easy to read for those who used.
 Successful engineer will find economic design and project is implemented in less time.
