7.3.1 Spacer and support constructions

For insulation of piping with sections as well as insulation of piping with a nominal diameter
≤ DN 100 and insulation thickness ≤ 50 mm with mineral wool mats, no spacer construction
is required.

Spacers and supports shall be made of CS or SS strips 30x3 mm designed as a ring with CS
or SS spacing legs at a maximum distance of 400 mm on the outer ring, at least 3 per
circumference.

For OT ≥ 400 °C the spacer legs shall be equipped with spring elements to allow thermal
expansion of the insulated item.

The spacer rings shall be clamped to pipes or equipment fixed with bolts ≥ M8 mm and nuts
with spring washers.

Spacer rings on piping shall be generally installed every 950 mm and at all beginnings and
ends of elbows, fittings or other installations. On elbows with an outer radius > 700 mm
additional spacers shall be installed.

On vertical piping and equipment with OT ≥ 400 °C spacer double rings shall be fixed at
welded brackets, at least every 6 m, acting as a support to carry the weight of the insulation.

7.3.2 Fastenings

Removable insulation boxes shall be fixed with adjustable and lockable quick release toggles
m ade of SS.

Refer to protection notice ISO 16016.
