SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN TLE-ICT

COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING NC II GRADE 9

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of concepts and principles in

setting up computer networks.

Performance Standard: The learners shall be able to set up computer networks based
established procedures and system requirements for hardware.

Learning Competencies: LO: Install Network Cables

CODE: TLE_IACSS9-12SUCN-IVa-j-33
LESSON: Network cable installation
I. OBJECIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to;
a. Identify tools and materials used in preparing network cable;
b. perform cable crimping and testing according to prescribed procedure; and
c. appreciate the importance of correct procedure in networks cable installation.

II. CONTENT:
LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References:
1. Curriculum Guide
2. Learner’s Module: chs lm module
3. Additional materials for LR multimedia/presentation
B. Other Learning Resources
Computer, activity sheets, LAN tester, UTP cable, rj45, crimping tool,
laptop, projector
C. Skills: identifying, performing, describing, observing

III. PROCEDURE/LEARNING ACTIVITIES

PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES:
Routinely activities:
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
3. Checking of the cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom
House rules:
 Keep phones in your pockets.
 Be on the assign seat base on the seat plan.
 Use polite language
 Raise concerns about one another’s statement in a respectful manner
 Observe safety rules and regulations in a work place all the time.

A. Reviewing previous lesson/ activating prior knowledge

 Ask the students about previous lesson of how to demonstrate pc

assembly
 Sharing of ideas and ask questions

Guide Questions:
1. What happened to pc if you don’t follow the procedure of
assemble/disassemble?
2. How do you diagnose hardware problems when your computer won’t turn
on?
3. How can you prevent your computer hardware from damages?

B. Establishing a purpose for a lesson/motivation

ACTIVITY #1
 Power Point Presentation
 Game - like (the class is divided into 5 groups) presenting,
the students will identify the different tools and materials in
preparing network cable.
 The teacher shows the pictures of tools and encourages students in
asking question related to network cable materiaals.

Wire cutter
LAN tester Crimping tool UTP cable RJ45

multitester Soldering iron Desoldering tool screwdriver Long nose pliers

Guide Questions:
a. How can you tell me which pictures used to test Ethernet cable?
b. Which pictures used for network cable installation?

IV. Developmental Activities

1. Preparatory (unlocking difficulties)
a. RJ45- Registered Jack 45
b. UTP – Unshielded Twisted Pair
c. LAN – Local Area Network
d. Crimp – compress into small folds or ridges.

2. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1

 The teacher will show a video clip of an Ethernet color coding and making
UTP cable.
 The teacher encourages students to ask related questions.
a. Do you have something in your mind about the video?
b. Can you share any ideas about the video?

3. Developing Mastery: (Formative Assessment)

ACTIVITY #2: Cooperative Learning
 The teacher groups the students.
 The teacher will present a station in performing UTP cable making and
Ethernet color coding
 Each group will perform UTP cable making in the station provided.
 Each group is provided with laboratory sheet and assigned task to follow.
 The students should select appropriate tasks and test equipment suit to a
certain job.
 Performance will be assessing using rubrics.

Remind students of the following:

 Guidelines and instructions in performing utp cable making are being provided in
every assigned stations

Procedure: Making Cable

Follow the steps below:

 Remove the outmost vinyl shield for 12mm at one end of the cable (we call this
side A-side).
 Arrange the metal wires in parallel (refer the each section's wire arrangement
table). Don't remove the shield of each metal line.
 Insert the metal wires into RJ45 connector on keeping the metal wire
arrangement.
 Set the RJ45 connector (with the cable) on the pliers, and squeeze it tightly.
 Make the other side of the cable (we call this side B-side) in the same way.
 After you made it, you don't need to take care of the direction of the cable. (Any
cable in this page is directionless --- that means you can set either end of the
cable to either device.)

4. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Group:
Interpret and discuss the results based on the actual hands on activity
through collaborative discussion (Computer Lab Worksheet).

5. Finding Practical Application of Concepts and Skills in Daily Living:

Simple network cable installation introduces internet connectivity in our
everyday life.

Guides Questions:
What is the possible cause, why the lights are not simultaneously blinking?
Answer:
1. sequence of color coding
2. cable not properly connected
3. broken cable

6. Making abstraction and generalization

The learner should be able to interpret the result and learn to realize the
importance of skills in computer network cable installation. Familiarization of
the tools and materials is also necessary.

7. Evaluation: (Learning assessment) analyse/interpretation of their works

(See attached rubrics)

 Students will be given 5 minutes to finalize and submit their laboratory

work sheet.
 Students’ scores in the activities will serve as their formative test
assessment in performance standard.
