The Handy Guide to

New Testament Greek
Grammar, Syntax, and Diagramming
The H andy Guide Series
Douglas S. Huffman
Designed to be less cumbersome and more readily accessible than larger grammar and syntax
textbooks, this compact reference edition can be used with a Greek New Testament to
provide a convenient overview of three key elements of learning Greek: grammar, syntax, and
diagramming. Other charts and books offer one or two of these aspects, but The Handy Guide
to New Testament Greek combines all three in one volume. In addition to reviewing grammar
and syntax, this volume teaches phrase diagramming as a tool to quickly develop sermon and
lesson outlines from the Greek text. First-year Greek students as well as experienced pastors
and teachers will find practical help in this handy guide.

The Singing Grammarian

Songs and Visual Presentations for Learning New Testament Greek Grammar
H. Daniel Zacharias
There are scores of first-year Greek grammar textbooks available for Bible college and
seminary courses in biblical Greek. Far less plentiful, however, are tools that help students
learn and retain the subject matter, regardless of the textbook they use. People learn in many
different ways, and a multimedia approach has been underutilized in the teaching of biblical
Greek. There is no better way to assist today’s New Testament Greek grammar student than
The Singing Grammarian.
Designed for use on video display devices or computers, this fun learning program covers
the major areas of introductory Greek and the major paradigms taught to introductory
students.
The title of each song explains its content: The Greek Alphabet song, First Declension
song, Second Declension song, Third Declension song, Definite Article song, Present Active
Indicative song, Present Middle/Passive song, Future Active and Middle song, Secondary
Endings (Imperfect) song, Aorist Active and Middle song, Liquid Verbs song, Passive System

Revisiting the Corruption

of the New Testament
Manuscript, Patristic, and Apocryphal Evidence
The Text and Canon of the New Testament Series
Daniel B. Wallace, general editor
In recent years there has been a renewed awareness of and interest in the early church and the
process of the canonizing of Scripture among both Christians and popular culture. Revisiting
the Corruption of the New Testament is the inaugural volume of The Text and Canon of the New
Testament series. This first volume focuses on issues in textual criticism—in particular, to
what degree did the scribes, who copied their exemplars by hand, corrupt the autographs?
All but one of the chapters deal specifically with New Testament textual criticism. The other
addresses textual issues related to an early apocryphal work, the Gospel of Thomas. Revisiting
the Corruption of the New Testament will be a valuable resource for those working in textual
criticism, early Christianity, New Testament apocrypha, and patristics.

AUTHOR
Allen P. Ross (PhD, University of
Cambridge) is professor of divinity in Old
Testament at Beeson Divinity School. He
has also taught at Trinity Episcopal School of
Ministry and Dallas Theological Seminary.
His publications include Creation and Blessing:
A Guide to the Study and Exposition of Genesis,
Holiness to the Lord: A Guide to the Exposition
of the Book of Leviticus, and An Introduction to
Biblical Hebrew.

Sample from Psalm 1

“The psalmist instructs believers not to live
the way the world lives, not to take spiritual,
moral, or ethical advice from unbelievers, and
not to join them in their profane enterprises;
rather, believers must study the Word of God
in order to live an untarnished and productive
life for God—and that life will be evidence of
a living faith that will see them through the
judgment, when God judges the wicked.
The central point of this psalm expressed in
an expository statement would be something
like this: The righteous who live an untarnished
and prosperous life in harmony with Scripture will be
saved from the judgment of God on the ungodly.
For believers, the application is obvious:
they must spend time meditating on God’s
Word so that they may live a distinct and
productive spiritual life for God, and in
the process, find assurance that God knows
them and will preserve them through the
judgment. To unbelievers the message is
urgent: they must come to faith in the Lord;
because if they live their lives without faith in
him or his Word, not even their good deeds
will count, and they will not survive the
judgment to come.”

A Commentary on the Psalms, Volume 1

Kregel Exegetical Library
Allen P. Ross
The first of a three-volume set, A Commentary on the Psalms sets a new standard for
commentaries on the Old Testament’s song book. Professor Allen P. Ross has spent years
studying the Psalms, teaching the Psalms to pastors and teachers, and preaching from the
Psalms. His exegesis demonstrates his fluency in both the language and the culture of the Old
Testament. This commentary is exegetically deep enough to satisfy the scholar and logically
organized to meet the needs of the pastor preaching on an individual psalm. The first of three
volumes, this commentary will be a standard reference volume found in the study of today’s
pastors and teachers. Volume 1 covers Psalms 1–41.

Part 1 addresses the basics of worldview thinking and its relationship to the historic doctrines
of the Christian faith. This includes such issues as the meaning of “worldview,” the relationship
of one’s worldview to truth, and the impossibility of equally true but competing worldviews.
Part 2 addresses the believer’s personal responsibilities in light of the Christian worldview.
This includes such issues as fundamental Christian disciplines (Bible study, prayer, worship,
handling temptation, etc.), interaction with other Christians, and the challenges of
interaction with those who do not share the Christian worldview.
This spiritual formation primer will challenge the reader to develop a biblical worldview as
well as personal integrity in the Christian life.

A Biblical Framework for Multiethnic Reconciliation Conclusion: From Here to Eternity
Kenneth A. Mathews and M. Sydney Park
In what has arguably been called “post-racial America,” how is the church doing at actually
being post-racial? Have churches laid aside assumptions and prejudices? How does the
church today function in its role of reconciliation?
In The Post-Racial Church, Kenneth Mathews and Sydney Park present a scriptural
framework for how the church ought to operate as a multiethnic culture. If the church is
called to the work of reconciliation, if the universal church is multiethnic, and if every tribe
and tongue will praise God together in the end, then shouldn’t individual churches reflect
that truth today?
In this book pastors will find biblical, philosophical, and practical reasons for challenging
the local church to become a multiethnic congregation that joins together in worship of the
God who calls each of us.

40 Questions & Answers Series

Arranged in a Q & A format, theses volumes tackle the major questions that pastors, church
leaders, and students ask about important contemporary issues in Christianity. These books
provide readers with a clear analysis of key biblical passages, succinct answers (4–8 pages
each), and discussion questions. The unique format of these books allow the readers to pick
and choose what issues are most pertinent to their interests and needs.
In the first volume, 40 Questions About Elders and Deacons, series editor Benjamin L. Merkle
tackles essential questions about congregational church government, a topic of much interest
in the church today. The second in the series, 40 Questions About Interpreting the Bible by
Robert L. Plummer, answers the major questions about the hermeneutics of reading the
Bible. The most recent volume, 40 Questions About Christians and Biblical Law by Dr. Thomas
R. Schreiner, not only answers the tough questions that flow from a discussion about the Old
Testament Levitical Law, but also examines the law in relation to the New Testament and
contemporary issues.

Handbooks for Old Testament Exegesis
David M. Howard Jr., series editor
The Old Testament displays a remarkable literary and theological unity through a variety
of genres. But applying a single, one-size-fits-all method of exegesis can lead to confusion
and misunderstanding. A valuable reference tool for students and pastors, the Handbooks for
Old Testament Exegesis (HOTE) series provides readers with an enhanced understanding of
different Old Testament genres and strategies for interpretation.
The inaugural volume in the HOTE series, Interpreting the Historical Books begins by
exploring the components of narrative-setting, characterization, and plot, and then develops
the major theological themes in each of the Old Testament historical books ( Joshua, Judges,
Ruth, 1–2 Samuel, 1–2 Kings, 1–2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther). As readers
work through Interpreting the Historical Books, they will begin to see and interpret the narrative
writings as the writings were intended to be understood.
The second contribution to the HOTE series, Interpreting the Psalms begins by explaining
the nature of Hebrew poetry and the purpose of the Psalms. An accomplished scholar of the
Psalms, Mark D. Futato explores issues related to properly interpreting Israel’s songbook and
concludes with a sample of moving from interpretation to proclamation.
In the latest addition to the series, Peter T. Vogt continues the tradition of excellence.
Divided into three parts, Interpreting the Pentateuch first provides an overview of the major
themes of the Pentateuch. In the second part, Vogt offers resources and strategies for
interpreting and understanding the first five books of the Bible by exploring its genres—law
and narrative. Finally, Vogt shows that although the Pentateuch is a collection of ancient
texts, it still has contemporary significance. Vogt also includes two samples of exegesis—one
from law and one from narrative—giving students a start-to-finish example of the techniques
to employ for effective exegesis.

Invitation to Theological Studies Series

A Series of Introductory Textbooks
The Invitation to Theological Studies (ITS) series continues to include primary textbooks for
introductory courses at evangelical seminaries and graduate schools. The purpose of ITS is to
provide the best in evangelical scholarship presented in an attractive and engaging format.
“Invitation” suggests the works are not only introductory, but also nonintimidating and
winsomely presented. Since the textbooks in the ITS series most likely represent the first formal
exposure to a respective subject on the graduate level, they are designed to both inform and
inspire the student.
