a) General description

The building houses the 33KV switchgear and shall consist of concrete columns. All
components in contact with soil shall be protected by proper tanking system and
all components in contact with ground water shall be watertight.

The 33KV will be located at the boundary wall and this will require partial demolishing
of the boundary and the contractor needs to do all the necessary work to check the
Boundary condition and add additional columns after constructing the 33Kv structure.

Layout and size of the building is depicted in the above reference drawings.

It should be noted that provided dimensions are minimum requirements and that final

6.2.6 Valve Chamber

Design of foundation shall be carried out by using the limit state design method at the
ultimate limit state for the applicable load combination.

The chambers are grouped together according to its geometry and magnitude of pipe forces.

The overall foundation stability check for allowable bearing capacity, sliding, overturning,
floatation and rotation shall be checked at serviceability limit state with factors of safety as
specified below.

In the sliding check, the friction resistance at foundation base shall not be entrusted (i.e. to
be considered as zero) in case of no shear key and this is for the application of water proofing
membrane above the blinding.

But in the case where shear key is required, a shear key depth of 500mm shall be provided
in order to develop full soil to soil friction.

In case of constructing the valve chamber, thrust blocks, etc above the ground (i.e. in bound),
then the soil passive resistance shall not be entrusted above the original ground level (i.e. to
be considered as zero); whilst the passive earth pressure shall be considered below the
original ground level. ~- ~

When the foundation is to be constructed below the underground water table, the tidal ra'I le ,\
shall be considered in the design calculations. I 'I
