STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION

To ensure that AIRCO complies with legislation and influences legislation affecting the music industry.

To ensure financial stability of the organization and its members.

To promote business affairs of the members through equitable commercial terms in the industry and promote access.

To ensure license income generated from usage of sound and video recordings controlled by members accrue to rights owners and performers.

To promote promotional opportunities and exposure for local music on radio and television (local content).

To promote commercial activity for members through online and digital business.

To increase awareness of AIRCO business in the industry through marketing, recruitment and communication.

To ensure South African representation on national and international forums.

To promote South African cultural identity through music.

To undertake social and economic transformation in the music industry and partake in structures promoting similar objectives.

To undertake skills development initiatives for its members and staff in order to build necessary capacity to members and staff.

EXPLANATORY NOTES

AIRCO AIRCO is an association incorporated in terms of section 21 of the Companies

Act. 1973. Its primary objective is to represent independent record companies in
South Africa in all aspects of the music industry and to promote independent record
companies generally. AIRCO will provide these services in accordance with it’s
Memorandum and Articles of Association.
Benefits for members A full member is entitled to all the benefits of membership, including the right to vote
at a general meeting on, for example; the appointment of directors to the board of
directors (’the Board”). All full members are required to be approved by the Board.
To be a member, the Board has resolved that an Applicant must satisfy the following
continuing terms and conditions of membership, namely the Applicant must:
1. Produce records and/or music videos in South Africa;
2. Market, advertise and sell records and/or music videos in South Africa;
3. Have a license to market, advertise and sell recorded music and/or music videos
on-line in South Africa;
4. Have a place of business in South Africa;
5. Not be major record company, or owned or controlled by a major;
6. Trade honestly and fairly regarding the public, its suppliers and customers, and
not otherwise unbefitting of a member of AIRCO; and
7. Not been found by a court to have infringed copyrighted in a sound recording or
a musical composition.
Benefits for association An associate member is entitled to limited benefits of membership, and for example
memebership cannot vote at a general meeting. All associate members are required to be approved
by the Board. To be an associate member, the Board has resolved that an applicant
must satisfy one of the following continuing terms and conditions of membership,
namely the Applicant must:
1. Warehouse and distribute records and/or music in South Africa;
2. Manufacture records and/or music videos in South Africa;
3. Act as a collecting society or agency whose members are wholly or partly
independent record companies
4. Make any other direct or indirect contribution to the business of independent
record companies as approved by the Board from time to time;
5. Have a place of business in South Africa; and
6. Not to be owned by a major record company; and
7. Trade honestly and fairly regarding the public, its suppliers and customers, and
not engage in conduct which is otherwise unbefitting of a member of AIRCO; and
8. Not been found by a court to have infringed copyrighted in a sound recording or
a musical composition.
The Board has resolved that membership fees shall be R200.00 (two hundred rands)
Membership Fees excluding VAT to be paid on confirmation of membership acceptance.
