Magic HRC scarf 1 by Assia Brill

Reversible The Magic scarf is a reversible scarf with a matching cable
Symmetrical, pattern on both sides. The pattern has a simple repeat,
both sides similar with 2x2 ribbing, even on cables rows, so it can easily be
a TV project: it requires attention only on every eighth row
to make 5 twists. There is no need to add HR purl stitches
for the cables, because for this pattern they are already
included in cast-on stitch count.
Any yarn can be used. The sample is knitted in tweedy
yarn therefore the pattern is not so pronounced. For a more

Pattern notes
The scarf starts with 2x2 ribbing, then is
worked in a HR Cable pattern and finished
with 2x2 ribbing. A slip-stitch selvedge
prevents the borders from rolling. The cable
pattern is available as both a chart and written
instructions. The scarf can be knit any length.
The width can be adjusted by changing the
cast-on stitch count by multiples of 20.

The instructions
Tip. Weigh your yarn ball before you start knitting
and then before changing needles, to find out the
quantity of yarn required for the 2x2 ribbing section.
Alternatively, after using half your yarn, place a
removable marker, and/or measure the length or
count the number of twists worked for the cable
pattern. Switch back to the ribbing when you have
worked the same length/number of twists
Cable row 1 (RS): s1, [k1, p1] twice, A, [p1, k1, B,
k1, p1, A] twice, [p1, k1] twice, s1
Cable rows 2-8: work 7 rows in rib pattern
Repeat cable pattern until the scarf measures 6 cm
shorter than the desired length, ending after a row
6, and ensuring that you leave enough yarn for the
2x2 ribbing section

Measure a 70 cm (27.5”) yarn tail and make a slip
knot. Using thinner needles and Long-tail cast-on,
cast on 58 sts
Start rib border using chart or written instructions
below:
Change to thinner needles and continue in rib
pattern for 6 cm (2.25”), ending with a RS row (17
more rows)
Bind off in pattern
Break the yarn, secure the last stitch and weave in
the ends
