1. Write a simple poem about yourself.

She has everything someone would wish for,

Why does she feel that something is wrong before?
She dislikes the life she has,
Wishing that this heavy feeling won't last.

She was the girl who was always afraid to speak up,
As if her mouth was wrapped.
She was afraid of being ignored;
When people want to approach her, she never opens her door.

She likes to be alone in a silence place,

Doesn't want to be part to be of someone's taste.
Her safe haven was her room,
She dislikes going out, for she doesn't want to be doom.

She was longing for her purpose,

To prove to herself that this life isn't worthless.
As she tries to cope up with what she missed,
Hoping people wouldn’t make her resist.

2. What is your inspiration while writing this poem?

My inspiration in writing this story is who I was before. I was always afraid to do things on my own
because I don't want to be criticized by other people around me. Back then I prefer to be alone because
every time I socialize I feel like people are judging me the way I talk or my choice of words. I am conscious
of what other people think of me. I don't share my thoughts and opinion on everything, even though
they are asking me to. That's why I hated my life for being me, I don't understand why do I need to feel
that way. But as I open my door to everyone, I realized a lot of things. That it is okay to hear the
judgments and criticism of others because it will help you to become a better person.

1. How can the Literary Devices add depth to your writing? Explain your answer.

Using literary devices are structure of writing used for conveying your ideas. It is a tool that enables a
writer to express his/her thoughts, feelings, and perception in a different manner but appears elaborate in
another person’s perspective. It adds depth because Literary Devices work as a metaphoric way of hiding
meaning behind words. One must exert effort in reading between the lines for him/her to fully understand
the theme of a literary work. Furthermore, literary devices add depth to literature because it emphasizes
and strengthens a writer’s composition. One can heighten his/her logical and emotional thinking by using
these devices. It challenges the readers’ critical thinking and therefore it will poke their curiosity and start
seeking for answers. Literary devices are also tools for persuasion for it can drive the readers into taking
action. It also makes your argument much more conclusive.

In conclusion, literary devices have the power to create unique and compelling ways of expressing one’s
depth of thinking and understanding the world. It is a tool for summoning the intellectual and emotional
capacity of yourself to articulate your perception about life.

2. Give at least one example of the three types of irony: (Verbal, situational and dramatic).

 Dramatic Irony
Tragic Irony is when the audience is aware in advance that tragedy will occur. It is a form of dramatic
irony, in which the audience is given more information than the character.
Example:
The story of Romeo and Juliet shows tragic irony. The audience is aware that their actions will lead to a
tragedy but the star-crossed lovers believed that the other one is dead and that leads them to double suicide.

 Verbal Irony
Sarcasm is an ironic statement meant to mock or ridicule another person.
Example:
Chandler: Oh dear God. Hold on, there’s something different.
Ross: I went to the tanning place your wife suggested.
Chandler: Was that place THE SUN?

This example is a scene from the TV Show Friends. The context of this scene is about Ross overdoing his
tan, and unequally having it on the front side of his body but not on the back side. Chandler showed sarcasm
when he asked Ross if perhaps he went to the sun for him to get that over colored tan.

 Situational Irony
Cosmic irony occurs when a higher power (e.g., God, fate, the Universe) intervenes to create an ironic
situation. Otherwise known as “irony of fate,” this idea of “interference” can either be actual or inferred. In
other words, there are clear cosmic irony examples when a 'mystical meddler' was involved.
Example:
When Aladdin is transformed into a rich man by the Genie, only for Jasmine to reject him.

In this scene the one with the higher power is the Genie and he brought interference to Aladdin by
making him a prince for Jasmine to like him. The irony is that despite all those effort and cosmic interference,
Jasmine rejected her because she doesn’t want to be with someone she’s unfamiliar with. Cosmic Irony is
somehow similar to deus ex machina wherein an unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless
situation.
