REPORT

Name of work: - IMPROVEMENT TO RAISUAN-MAHADEIJODA-KUSUMITA ROAD

FROM 0/0 KM TO 13/389 KM IN THE DISTRICT OF KEONJHAR
UNDER NABARD ASSISTANCE RIDF-XXV FOR THE YEAR 2019-20.

Estimated Cost: - Rs. 1947.39 lakhs

Necessity: - Transport is an essential ingredient to the all round development of the

The proposed Raisuan, Kusumita, Mahadeijoda road is an important

link of traffic movement in keonjhar district. Also this road connects to
the industrial and mining area of Keonjhar District. This stretch of the
road is in very bad condition and not traffic worthy due to movement of
heavy traffic. Since the mining activities are growing very fast, the
widening and strengthening of this stretch of the road is absolutely
necessary.
The above stretch of the road is located in the State of Odisha.
This area experiences annual average rainfall within 1200 - 2200mm
during the period from mid June to October. The maximum temperature
during summer from April to June is about 46 degree Celsius and
minimum during winter from November to January is about 7 degree
Celsius.

Alignment: - The proposed road Raisuan - Mahadeijoda - Kusumita Road is

handed over from R.D. Department during 2014 - 15 .The existing
carriageway is single lane and in very damaged condition. The existing
crust comprises of Morrum (GSB) 100 mm, WBM 75 mm & PMC SC.
The existing ROW varies from 10 to 12 m. It is proposed to widened
the existing road to intermediate lane standard of 5.5m carriage way
and formation width of 9m. The alignment after due correction as per
ministry standard has been shown in the plan. The detail crust
composition of existing and proposed carriage way has been shown
Clearly in typical cross sections attached to the estimate. Care shall be

taken not to inflict the drainage system of the topographic, but road
side drain and cross drainage system shall have to be improved.

Existing Crust: - The detail of existing crust is furnished below.

For Flexible:-

Moorum (GSB) -100 mm (will function as subgrade)

WBM = 75 mm
PMC SC (Damaged condition
Total = 75 mm

Field Investigation: - The following field investigations have been conducted at site.

I) Topographical survey
II) Soil investigation
III) Road and CD inventory
iv) Traffic survey

Traffic Data: - Traffic census has been conducted in the month of Feb 2019. As per
traffic data CVD and PCU comes to 202 and 1394 respectively. The traffic
data is enclosed here with.

Pavement Design :- Since the work mainly comprises of Widening of existing single lane to
Intermediate lane and Strengthening of the entire carriage way with
flexible pavement, IRC: 37 has been adopted in the design of the stretch.

Effective CBR of compacted sub grade = 6% & MSA = 3.

Provisions

For Road works: - the following provision has been made in this estimate, the details are as
follows:

For Flexible

For Improvement of the existing flexible pavement.

i) 75 mm thick G.S.B Gr.IV till the end of the embankment,

beyond the existing crust.

ii) 115 thick G.S.B Gr.-IV overlay on the entire carriage way.

iii) 250 mm WMM overlay on entire carriage way.

iv) 50 mm thick BM overlay on the entire carriage way.

v) 25 mm thick SDBC on the entire carriage way.

vi) Road marking with thermoplastic paint.

vii) Provision of retro-reflectorised Road signs.

C.D.works:

There are 36 nos of existing CD structures out of which 27 nos are

Hume pipe culverts, 1 box culvert, 5 slab culverts,1 causeway & 2
minor bridges. Out of 27 HP culverts, 14 are proposed for
reconstruction, 7 are proposed for widening, 6 nos are retained due
to good condition and width are also adequate. Box culvert is
retained due to good condition & Width is also adequate. Out of 5
slab culverts 4 are proposed for reconstruction & 1 is proposed for
widening. Both minor bridges are retained due to good condition
and adequate width. Causeway is proposed to be reconstructed as
Box Culvert. 5 new HP culverts are proposed considering the water
drainage requirement.

Camber &
Super elevation:- 2.5 % camber on carriage way and 3 % camber on both side berms in
Flexible pavement has been proposed. The designed super elevation
has been proposed in the estimate.

Drainage: - In the proposed stretch there are 36 numbers of existing CD Works & 5
nos of new culverts are also proposed. The vent age of existing culverts
is adequate for drainage of rain water during rainy season. Provision of
deep drain 1820m (In stretches) in the built-up portions as per the
schedule (enclosed) has been proposed. There is no drainage problem
in the balance portion of the proposed stretch.

18. Comments on Justification of project and benefits :

This road has been transferred from RD department. During the last three years due to heavy
rainfall the carriage way got severely damaged with local depression and potholes. The existing
3.50 mtr carriageway width of road is insufficient to cater the present vehicular traffic. Besides
the increased heavy traffic from day to day causing accident on road in most of the time in year.
Considering above , it has been suggested to widen the road on both side to a carriageway
width 5.5mtr intermediate lane standard with formation width of 8.50 mtr replacement of old
and damaged CD works as well as some protection works. The Road plays an important role for
transportation of agricultural products from rural belt to district head quarter Keonjhar as well as
provides medical facility to local people at head quarter hospitals of the districts. The road is life
line to the people of local areas.
19. Comments on technical specifications
