COURSE GUIDE

Welcome to Research and Statistical Method class. The course covers the application
of qualitative and quantitative research methods, offering students a possibility to deepen
their insights in research methodology through hands-on exercises and seminar discussion.
Seminar themes covers philosophical frameworks for quantitative and qualitative research,
research design, data collection methods, data analysis, research ethics and current issues
in research. Students will learn software tools for doing quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Multiple decision support tools for biodiversity and environmental management will be
presented including cost benefit analysis and multi criteria analysis

After completing this course, you are expected to:

1. Formulate research problems, define objectives, methods and deliverables, 2.
Perform data preparation, visualization and analysis using inferential statistics and
multivariate modelling techniques,
3. Demonstrate proper deployment of results of data analysis, and
4. Be familiar with the use of statistical software as a tool for computation and
analysis.

We will have flexible learning as we go through this course. You may opt to have any
or a combination of the following modes of delivery: 1) PDF files to be sent to you thru
Google classroom, Facebook Private Group, and/or Messenger Chat Group; 2)
Asynchronous discussion through Google classroom, Facebook Private Group, and/or
messenger chat group account using electronic version of the materials; 3) Synchronous
discussion using Google Classroom/Meet or Zoom. 4) Designated drop box for the handouts
and submission of student’s output.

The major learning tasks are the preparation of written works such as draft chapters
of your propose thesis from introduction to research methods. In this way, your capability as
a student in preparing report or presentation on the topic of your choice will be enhanced.
Also, you will be assigned individually to develop a concept papers as a response to specific
environmental issues using data and information generated in the class. You will also have
midterm and final examinations as part of the course requirements.

Submission of the course requirements will be announced through the Google

classroom and scheduled midterm and final exam during the duration of the course. All
reading materials, video and case presentation, including activity sheets will be provided
through the Google classroom.

Kindly use the Surname_Name of Requirements in the subject line when
submitting or uploading in the Google classroom. Make sure that you perform the required
tasks and submit the outputs using the subject line stated above.
