Course Description:
The course covers all the facets of Indian banking in brief. The course has been devised to enable the
management students to have exposure to banking operations. Banking has become an integral part of every
one’s day to day life. Hence awareness of banking products and services is required by all students whether they
take up banking as their career or not. The course coves the primary and secondary functions of Banks like
accepting of deposits, lending, investment and other services like remittances, collection of cheques, Bills,
lockers, online merchant banking services etc. The course is periodically vetted by the industry experts, to
update the course contents, as per industry requirements

Course Objectives:
 Portray the Indian banking system, its constituent elements and regulatory environment.
 Provide insights about various types of customers, deposit and loan products, negotiable instruments,
cash management and Para banking services provided by banks.
 Outline different types of banking like, Personal Banking, Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, SME
Banking, Rural Banking, Microfinance, etc.
 Appraise the importance of recovery bank loans, to minimize provision on loans and increase
profitability.
 Identify appropriate preventive, remedial and legal measures of recovery.
 Relate BASEL norms for Financial stability of Banks

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to:
1. Enhance their knowledge related to banking and equip the required capabilities for assuming the
position of a bank executive.
2. Assess credit proposals for retail and SME loans
3. Comprehend various types of risks associated with banking business
4. Appreciate the importance of recovery of loans for profitability of banks.

Students understand the various types of risks a corporate is exposed to and also apply the various risk
management tools to hedge the risks. Topics include the importance of risk management, types of risks,
types of financial derivatives; forwards, futures, options and swaps; pricing financial derivatives and
their application in hedging, speculation and arbitrage etc.

Course Objectives:

• To provide a conceptual knowledge and application of the derivative instruments and their
applications in managing various types of financial risks.
• To provide a framework on mechanics, properties and valuation of forwards, futures, options and
swap instruments.
• To provide a framework on how to value derivative instruments and use them for hedging,
speculation, and arbitrage.
• To enable the student learn about risk management strategies and practices.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to :


1. Conceptually understand the mechanics of Forwards/Futures, Options and SWAP markets
2. Comprehend and apply the hedging strategies using futures for real world situations

chapter indicated in the course plan as the faculty directs.
c. In the class discussion student is expected to participate actively and contribute to individual and
group learning. Evaluation is based on active participation.
d. Evaluation is a continuous process at IBS. Every student needs to be aware of the timelines given in
the section below. Absence from these evaluations will mean non awarding of marks in that particular
component
e. Each faculty has been given a scheduled consultation hour. Utilize this time to meet the faculty and
clarify doubts if any, seek explanations and get mentored if needed.

Course Description:
Students examine financial statements in-depth to assess the Performance of Companies and Financial Position. Apply important tools and
techniques analyzing and interpreting financial statements of all types of business entities. Topics include assets and liabilities sides of
balance sheet, inter corporate loans, mergers and acquisitions, cash flow analysis, deferred taxes, leases off the balance sheet debts,
foreign currency transactions, ratio analysis, EVA and window dressing.

At the end of the course, students are expected to:

This course delves into the structure, management and practices of investment banking (IB). It covers the business activities of mergers and acquisitions, financing and
investment; and, the creation of value through financial advisory services. It looks into the business practices of private equity, hedge funds and trading operations. The

participation.
d. Evaluation is a continuous process at IBS. Every student needs to be aware of the timelines given in the section below. Absence from these
evaluations will mean non awarding of marks in that particular component
e. Wherever applicable, group assignments require each student to contribute to the group effort. This enhances group effectiveness and leads to
greater appreciation of working in groups.
f. Formal dressing is suggested for all students. Do not roam in the academic area/ attend classes in chappals / shorts / informal t shirts
g. Students are expected to show high regard and appreciation for in class discipline and desist from using mobile phones. This disturbs the class

Students examine fundamental principles and techniques of security analysis in developing their
decision-making skills in the context of Investments. Topics include the investment environment;
markets and instruments; macroeconomic and industry analysis; fundamental analysis; technical
analysis; Company analysis and equity valuation models; Bond Markets and Valuation of Fixed
Income Securities; Duration, Convexity and Immunization; Efficient Market Hypothesis and Research
