Preliminary functional testing – Ensure the Power Switch is OFF and no accessories are connected.

Preliminary functional testing – a series of test tones sound.

Preliminary functional testing – during the test tone, it displays a total of eight “8’s” on the three digital
displays.

Preliminary functional testing – it illuminates all three activation indicators, all six key indicators, and
two dispersive electrode indicators.

Preliminary functional testing – after the display test, the ESU shows the software revision level in the
COAG display window. The ESU is conducting a power-on self-test during this interval.

Preliminary functional testing – the internally selected Blend mode is indicated by either “bL LO” for the
factory default Blend mode or “bL H I” for Blend Hi.

Preliminary functional testing – if there are no errors, normal operational parameters are then
displayed.

Preliminary functional testing – the dispersive electrode alarm sounds and Dispersive Electrode
Indicators flash alternating red.

Preliminary functional testing – (adjust the Tone Loudness controls over their full range) verify there is
no significant change in sound level.

Preliminary functional testing – (select each of the modes by pressing the Mode Select Keys) note the
displayed power settings for each mode in the corresponding displays.

Preliminary functional testing – Pure Cut Indicator is illuminated by pressing the Pure Cut Mode Select
Key.

Preliminary functional testing – (pressing the Monopolar Cut Power Adjustment Keys to increase and
decrease the setting) verify that the display changes appropriately and that no other displays change.

Preliminary functional testing – (press the Blend Mode Select Key) verify that the setting for Blend
matches the Pure Cut Mode power setting.
Preliminary functional testing – verify that each of the other modes can be selected and adjusted up and
down in the same manner as the Pure Cut Mode (other modes are: Blend, Standard Coag, Spray Coag,
Bipolar Micro, Bipolar Macro).

Preliminary functional testing – (depress the bipolar footswitch) confirm that the Bipolar Activation
Indicator illuminates, and a bipolar activation tone is sounded.

Preliminary functional testing – (adjust the Tone Loudness Adjustment Keys over their full range) verify
the function of that control and that sound is audible at all positions.

Preliminary functional testing – (release the bipolar footswitch) confirm the System 2450 returns to its
idle state.

Preliminary functional testing – (set the bipolar power setting to 1 watt) verify the bipolar hand control
is functional by use of the appropriate forceps or by connecting a jumper between the center and right
hand Bipolar Accessory Receptacle on the Output Panel.

Preliminary functional testing – verify that the Single and Dual Dispersive Electrode Status/Alarm
Indicators flash red.

Preliminary functional testing – confirm the Single Dispersive Electrode Status/Alarm Indicator is steady
green.

Preliminary functional testing – (depress the Cut treadle of the Monopolar footswitch) the yellow Cut
Activation Indicator lights and the cut activation tone sounds.

Preliminary functional testing – the yellow Cut Activation Indicator remains illuminated and the Cut
Activation tones continue.

Preliminary functional testing – (release the Cut treadle while continuing to press the Coag treadle)
confirm that the yellow Cut Activation Indicator extinguishes, the blue Coag Activation Indicator
illuminates, and the activation tone changes from Cut to Coag.

Preliminary functional testing – (release the coag treadle) verify that the display returns to normal.

Preliminary functional testing – (press the coag treadle) verify that the blue Coag Activation Indicator
illuminates until the Coag treadle is released.

Preliminary functional testing – (activate the Cut and Coag keys on the accessory, one at a time) verify
that each control causes the correct indicator and tone to sound.

Preliminary functional testing (hand-controlled accessory moved to the other Monopolar Accessory
Receptacle) – (activate the Cut and Coag keys on the accessory, one at a time) verify that each control
causes the correct indicator and tone to sound.

Preliminary functional testing – (disconnect the single dispersive electrode) confirm that the System
2450 beeps three times and the Single and Dual Dispersive Electrode Status/Alarm Indicators alternately
flash red.
