GRADE 8 – SCIENCE – Learning tasks

WEEK 1 –
1. differentiate balanced and unbalanced forces;
2. investigate the effects of force and mass to the motion of the object;
3. relate first law of Newton to the second law; and
4. cite situations in life where Newton’s laws are applied.

WEEK 2 – 3

1. state the third law of motion;

2. identify action-reaction force pairs; and
infer that when a body exerts a force on another, an equal amount of force is
exerted back on it.

3. differentiate potential and kinetic energy;

4. describe the factors that affect potential energy;
5. determine the mathematical variation between potential energy and mass
and height from the ground;
6. compare the values of potential energy of varying masses at the same
elevation from the ground;
7. describe the factors that affect kinetic energy;
8. determine the mathematical variation between kinetic energy and mass
and velocity;
8. create and explain a concept map involving the terms potential energy,
kinetic energy, mass, gravity, height, and velocity; and
9. Demonstrate and explain the law of conservation of energy using a
pendulum.

WEEK 4 –
1. infer that sounds can move through solids, liquids and gases;
2. describe the effect of temperature on the speed of sound; and
3. compare the speed of sound at different temperatures.
4. Demonstrate bending of light, to show the existence and correct order of
its color components;
5. Infer that light is made up of different colors, the red is the least bent and
the violet is the most bent colors of light; and
6. Deepen understanding of light concepts through reading facts and varied
lab performance activities.
7. define heat and temperature
8. describe the effect of heat to an object
9. differentiate heat and temperature
WEEK 5 – 6

1. Describe current, voltage, and resistance.

2. Determine the relationship between electric current, voltage, resistance.
3. Measure the electric current and voltage in a circuit using ammeter and
voltmeter.
4. Apply Ohm’s Law to real life problems.

WEEK 7 –
1. Describe an electrical circuit.
2. Construct parallel and series connection.
3. Compare parallel connection and series connection.
4. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of series and parallel
connections in the homes.

5. describe short circuit, overloading and its effect;

6. identify common electrical safety devices used in the home;
7. explain the functions of circuit breaker, fuse, earthing, double insulation
and other safety devices in the home.
