This research is a Classroom Action Research regarding the use of documentary films to improve

students 'story telling skills which aims to determine the improvement of students' story telling
skills in the first and second cycles. The background of this research is due to the low ability of
story telling students. This research was conducted using two cycles, the stages of which consist
of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The subjects in this study were 22 students
of class XI IPS 2 in SMA Negeri 1 Pariaman. Learning steps to improve story telling skills by
utilizing documentary film media consist of three activities, namely learning opening activities,
core activities, and closing activities. The results of the study showed that each cycle had
increased in every aspect. It can be seen in the assessment of the ability to tell students'
storytelling in the first cycle, namely the content aspect of 53%, the linguistic aspect of 47% and
the presentation of the percentage of 60% and the second cycle of the content aspect with the
percentage of 82%, the linguistic aspect of 83% and from the aspect of delivery the percentage is
around 62%. Then the level of completeness of each aspect in the second cycle increased from
the first cycle. So it can be concluded from the results of the above research, that by using
documentary films can improve the ability to story telling students. It can be seen in the
