STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Introduction

I, Amitkumar Devjibhai Patel would hereby like to give a description about myself and outline my
academic as well as extra curricular accomplishments. I would also like to discuss about my
career achievements and the motivation to pursue Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness at The
Curtin University of Technology, Bentley Northam.

I have always been interested in Business in Agricultural related field (Agribusiness).To get the
answers, I pursued my Graduation in Agriculture (B.Sc.Agri.).
This assisted me in gaining knowledge about Agricultural field because Agriculture is a broad field
which include detail study related to Plant, animal, soil science etc.

My family

I belong to an honourable Gujarati family. There are five members in my family including my
carrying parents, my elder sister, my younger sister and myself. My family has always been a
source of inspiration for me. My parents have been supporting in all my endeavours. I am heartily
thankful to my family for all their love, care and support. My parents have always encouraged me
to stay optimistic and honest. These qualities will surely help me during my stay in Australia.

Educational qualification

Regarding my academic qualification, I feel happy to mention that I passed my 10th Grade in
2001 with 84.29%. As I was more interested in Mathematics, Biology, chemistry and physics. I
took science stream for further studies. I passed my 12th grade in 2003 with 48.31% with a
desirable percentage, I joined the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Navsari Agricultural
University, Navsari, Which was formerly a part of the Gujarat Agricultural University.

7th semester in 4th year including RAWE Programme (Rural Agricultural Work Experience).
During the RAWE Programme, I visited many Co-operative societies based on Agriculture
product, Dairy industry and Private Companies' production process, way of managing, their
showrooms, different products goods and services available, marketing channels etc. This helped
me gain practical knowledge about various conditions and develop my inter personal skills while
communicating top level executives and end users, and it also helped me develop confidence in
handling different situations.
I scored first class during my graduation with 6.97 OGPA (69.7%). Through out my academics,
the medium of the instruction has been English.
During my school and college period, I have also been a keen participant in extra co-curricular
activities. My area of interest has been sports. I was participated in the kabaddi and kho-kho
game and I was selected for University player and got certificate. I am a very versatile person
and have always wanted to experience a different culture and pursue an international degree.
Although my country offers a similar course, I would like to pursue the degree from Australia as I
think it will facilitate me to grow as an administrator as well as a person. It will enable me to meet
people from different countries and culture.

Career goals

Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness is the field of science which mainly deals with a range of skills
and understanding of production, sustainability and agribusiness areas of Agriculture with the
opportunity for additional focus in the plant, animal or biotechnology areas. During my Graduate
course, I have studied different subjects like Botany, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Extention
education and Rural development, Crop physiology, Agronomy, Remote sensing, Ecology,
Engineering etc.
Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness will provide a broad based training to extend my analytical and
research experience to advance knowledge. The course develops skills and knowledge in a
range of areas from marketing and management to global concerns of food security, economic
development and natural resource use etc. Successful completion of this course will prove fruitful
in acquiring a desired position in any reputed company.
A wide range of career opportunities exist in agricultural service industries such as stock firms,
banks and chemical companies as well as in education or government advisory and consultancy
position.

Moreover, I have chosen Australia for my higher study as it has largest number of international
students after USA and UK. Australian qualification and universities are highly recognized for
their high quality of education. Additionally, the education system is practical oriented while
education in India is based on theoretical aspects. Besides, the quality of education in Australia
offers excellent value for money and standard of living.
Living expenses and tuition fee costs are considerably less than other countries. Studying in
Australia would provide me with an opportunity to expose myself to another culture and attribute
of value in an era of increasing globalization.

Future plans

It is quite obvious that lacking any kind of advance capabilities would hinder any one's career in
long run in today's era of globalization. So, I would like to have an experience of learning a
Global System.

Agribusiness is a rapidly growing field in India now-a-days. We have a lot more cases related to
Finance, Marketing, Processing, Storage facility, which can only be fulfilled by Mastery. So,
successful completion of this course would assist me in handling and effectively treating
complicated situations and conditions. I can join a well known company and serve the people of
my country.

Conclusion

I would like to conclude by requesting the Australian High Commission to grant me preliminary
approval of my student Visa application.
