considered to be one of the pillars of the construction industry in USA.

US Cement Industry Production and Growth

Production and growth of cement industry in USA is dependent on the

construction industry. It is an indispensable component in almost each and every
form of construction. Cement trade in the United States is seasonal in nature as
the maximum consumption takes place between May and October. Most of the
cement industry is found to be concentrated in one particular region. This is
because cost of transportation or shipping of cement is greater than its actual
value. As much as 96% of manufactured cement is transported on trucks.

Cement industry in the United States has undergone rapid growth in recent
years. The upward swing began in 2006 and continues till date. This was due to
the initiation of projects worth $1.8 billion. At present eleven cement plants are
under construction. Some projects have already been started by firms like
Cemex Inc, American Cement Co., Keystone Cement Co, Florida Rock
Industries, Texas Industries Inc, Buzzi Unicern USA, Continental Cement Co,
Rinker Materials and Holcim. Ongoing projects are scheduled to be completed by
2009 and are expected to increase cement making capacity by 12.7 millions tons
per year.

section of the available labor force. However, available statistics indicate that
employment opportunities in this particular sector have declined over years. In
