A debate that has haunted parents for generations and generations to come, is it safe to
put your kid into sports? All sports have their risks, like in football you can get a head injury, in
soccer you can get a leg injury, there's a way to hinder your child’s development in almost every
sport imaginable, but the amount of lessons that can be taken from putting a kid into sports is
something that just can not learn from anything else, which is why it is very important that kids
How can you make sure that your kid is going to live a good and successful life? By
setting them up for success when they are younger. It is so important that you make sure your kid
has a healthy and happy childhood because they go directly from childhood, into adulthood, and
they take all of their skills and knowledge from their past. It is important to promote good
leadership skills and a happy non depressing lifestyle when the kids are younger, because it will
make sure that they are able to live that way for the rest of their lives.
So what are the benefits of putting kids into sports? One of the main and most important
reasons that it is important to put kids into sports is because it helps encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Living a healthy life is extremely important for young kids, especially if they want to live a long
and happy life. The main way that sports promote a healthy lifestyle is by promoting regular
physical activity and exercise. Keeping regular exercise is important so that you are able to live

your childhood to the fullest by being fit and healthy. Kids love to run around and play with each
other but they aren’t able to do that if they aren’t living a healthy lifestyle. Childhood obesity is a
very apparent thing, around 18.5% of adolescents (around 13.7 million kids according to the
CDC). Obesity is a very serious problem and prevents kids from reaching their goals and being

improving the health of America’s youth. Not only does sports improve physical health, but it
almost improves mental health, in two different ways. The first way that sports improves mental

scientifically proven that exercise and sports is one of if not the best way to deal with depressing
thoughts, which is extremely important especially for developing kids. Another way that sports is
able to improve your mental health is by keeping them from making other poor decisions. There
are a lot of life changing decisions that people can make when they are children and sports can
go a long way to preventing those things from happening. According to a study from Mizzou
University, “...sports can help you reach your fitness goals and maintain a healthy weight.
However, they also encourage healthy decision-making such as not smoking and not drinking.
Sports also have hidden health benefits such as lowering the chance of osteoporosis or breast
cancer later in life.” (MU). Sports are able to distract people from doing a lot worse things, and
honestly, do better in life. According to the same exact study made by Mizzou, sports help kids a
lot with academics, too. Playing a sport requires a lot of time and energy. Some people may think
this would distract student-athletes from schoolwork. However, the opposite is true. Sports
require memorization, repetition and learning — skillsets that are directly relevant to class work.

Also, the determination and goal-setting skills a sport requires can be transferred to the
classroom.” (MU).
Playing sports as a young kid can offer so many different benefits that go far beyond any
of the playing fields. Playing sports as an adolescent does not only promote living a healthy life,
it also is able to teach kids about leadership, friendship, and personal skills, which you are not
