Internet Use Policy


Introduction :

Computers, networks, and electronic information systems are essential resources for
accomplishing Islamic International Medical College Trust & Riphah International
University‘s mission of instruction, research and public service. The Organization grants
to the staff and students of the University to use the shared access to these resources in
order to accomplish the University’s mission. Internet is an important asset and must be
managed as a valuable resource.

1. Purpose
The Purpose of documenting this internet use policy is to establish guidelines
to ensure that usage of internet complies with overall acceptable use Policy of
It services and to protect the university against damaging , legal consequences
and to educate the individual who may use the internet facility with
responsibility.

2. Audience :
This Acceptable Internet Use policy applies to all permanent, temporary staff,
contractors, consultants, visitors, students and other individuals employed by
International Islamic Medical College Trust(IIMC –Trust) including associated
sites Pakistan Railway Hospital, International Islamic Medical Complex and
International Islamic Dental college & Hospital and Riphah International
university.
3. Ownership:
Use of Internet services is a privilege, not a right. Use of Internet services
and access extends throughout an employee’s term of employment,
providing the employee does not violate the University’s policies regarding
Network, Internet or Intranet use.

4. Privacy:
Network and Internet access is provided as a tool for our organization. University
reserves the right to monitor, inspect, copy, review, and store in Internet Traffic
at any time, without prior notice, any and all usage of the Internet, as well as any
and all materials, files, information, software, communications, and other content
transmitted, received or stored in connection with this usage. All such
information, content, and files are the property of the University. An employee
should have no expectation of privacy regarding them. Network administrators
may review files and intercept communications for any reason, including but not
limited to maintaining system integrity and ensuring employees are using the
Internet facility consistently with this Policy

5. Internet Use Restrictions :

• Downloading software without the prior written approval of the IT


Manager
• Printing or distributing copyrighted materials. This includes, but is not
limited to, software, articles and graphics protected by copyright.
• Using software that is not licensed by the manufacturer or approved by the
IT Manager.
• Sending, printing, or otherwise disseminating the University’s proprietary
data, or any other information deemed confidential by the University, to
unauthorized persons.
• Operating a business, soliciting money for personal gain or otherwise
engaging in commercial activity outside the scope of employment.
• Searching for outside employment.
• Making offensive or harassing statements based on race, color, religion,
national origin, veteran status, ancestry, disability, age, sex, or sexual
orientation.
• Sending or forwarding messages containing defamatory, obscene, offensive,
or harassing statements. An employee should notify their supervisor and/or
Human Resource manager immediately upon receiving such a message. This
type of message should not be forwarded.
• Sending or forwarding a message that discloses personal information
without University authorization. This shall also include accessing,
transmitting, receiving, or seeking confidential information about clients or
fellow employees without authorization.
• Sending ethnic, sexual-preference or gender-related slurs and/or jokes via e-
mail. “Jokes”, which often contain objectionable material, are easily
misconstrued when communicated electronically.
• Sending or soliciting sexually oriented messages or images.
• Attempting to access or visit sites featuring pornography, terrorism,
espionage, theft, or drugs.
• Gambling or engaging in any other criminal activity in violation of local,
state, or federal law.
• Engaging in unethical activities or content.
• Participating in activities, including the preparation or dissemination of
content, which could damage the University’s professional image, reputation
and/or financial stability.
6. Restricted Sites:

For Students & Employees :


All Internet traffic is allowed except following sites against mentioned categories
with some exceptions.

1. Community and chatting Sites.


• Orkut
• Face book.
o Access can be given on demand for legitimate use.
• Twitter
2. Live Streaming.
• Youtube.
o Access can be given on demand for legitimate use.
• Online Music and Songs Sites
3. Downloads
• Torrents
o Download for research purposes are allowed as information
service and IT department is allowed to use internet for such
download on behalf of requester.
• Megashare
4. Uploads and FTP.
• Completely Block other then official Uploads on Riphah Websites or
authorized access given by IT Manager.
5. Porn Sites.
• All Knows Porn sites

7. Disciplinary actions.

Violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action under the prevailing rules regulations of
the university for employees and students. Additionally individuals are subject to loss of
University Information resources access privileges, civil, and criminal prosecution which can lead
to termination.
