Prompt #1:
Consider how “globalization” is impacting your current or future work and/or your education.  Identify a
minimum of two examples. How do you see Thomas Friedman's concept that "average is over now"
(from the video) impacting you?
Answer:
For myself I think this idea of globalization enhances my interest in continuing my education
further after I have completed my bachelor’s degree. I never wanted to be average, settling is not in
my mindset and my future, I expect the best out of myself and plan to use my talents to the furthest
level possible. My education is important to me and although it may push me to the lowest points at
times, it will always be mine no one can take away the work that I have put in. As a potential future
educator, myself, I want this mindset to excite my students and push them to make their own
educational choices and let them know that at any age you can begin again.

Prompt #2:
Much controversy swirls around issues such as immigration, trade agreements, tariffs, and global
warming.  Select at least one (or more) of those issues and expound on your concerns.  Be as blunt and
clear as you can and, also, be challenging but respectful of classmates who may hold a different opinion.
Answer:
I currently reside in the central valley of California; this area is known for the agriculture and
big presence of migrant farm workers. For this reason, I believe that we need build up our
immigrant population, we will always have people willing to work and perform the jobs that many
other citizens would pass by. Those farm workers children are the ones who will continue their
education here in the united states and move forward in life beyond farm laboring, and for that we
should aide them in the process to become a proper citizen.

Global warming, although it is controversial the science can not be denied or ignored. Living in
the valley I know the farming techniques of these generational family farms are contributing the
mass emissions of greenhouse gases. This realization is the perspective of many in the valley but
there will never be enough evidence for the farm families to change their ways here unfortunately.
And as much as we advocate it here in the united states, until there are leaders in power who speak
it in volumes and switch policies to help the effort then nothing will change.

Prompt #3:
In Chapter 4, you read about the transformation within Alcatel de Nogales and Badger Meter de Mexico
that continues to this day.  Identify 2 or more characteristics of these workplaces that led to their
impressive successes.
Answer:
A few of the similar characteristics were, the performance rewards for multiple skills, changes to
hierarchies, and employees train to develop new skills. Which aligns with the #2 principle of the
seven, beliefs, “guidance system and their supporting values guide the conduct of those doing the
work” (McIntosh - Fletcher & McIntosh - Fletcher, 2020, p. 131).

Prompt #4:
After reviewing the comparison of U.S. workforce ethics to Mexican workforce ethics in Chapter 4, what
insights do you have about how well you align with either set of ethical principles?  Have you
experienced any sense of uneasiness, conflicts, or clashes when working with co-workers from a different
culture?
Answer:

As a whole American society is an individualistic culture and I find myself being more aligned with
the collectivist mindset of Hispanic/Latino cultures. Though I have my own personal goals and
plans to achieve those goals, when working with a team I would rather the whole team be as
successful as myself. This could be that my work alignment score is based upon an adaptor profile,
which makes sense why I similarities in both lists of ethics. For myself situations can change plans,
so it can require a logical plan or an intuitive one depending on the circumstances.

Prompt #5:
Write a short paragraph that describes your “alignment philosophy,” a philosophy that will guide you as
you interact with the shrinking global workplace.  Which of the seven principles from Chapter 2 and
referenced for global purposes at the close of Chapter 8 will guide you?  What characteristics/skills will
you develop to improve your abilities to align most effectively with this every-changing world of work?
Answer:

Works invitation: this states that I must strive to contribute the best within myself. As I work for to
obtain my bachelor’s degree I see this as aligning with how I feel about the process, I strive to be
my best in all my courses so that I find fulfillment in the teachings. This would also adhere to the
mindset I would need to continue with as I moved further in my education and my future career as
a teacher.

Works heart: as mentioned previously my goal is to become a teacher, although I am unsure of

what grade I will teach just yet my purpose remains the same, to positively impact a students life
through mindful education. If I can interpret my own teachings of the values of being mindful into
my lessons, then I will have made a difference in some way. The greatest gift I could give to anyone
is a listening ear and open mind/heart.
