2 : UNICELLULAR & MULTICELLULAR

ORGANISMS

A  unicellular   A  mul3cellular
organism   organism  consists
consists  of  only   of  many  cells.
one  cell.   Most  of  the
It  is  very  *ny  &   Earth’s

the  microscope   organisms.

UNICELLULAR ORGANISMS
They  usually  live
in  water  or  moist
area  such  as
ponds,  rivers  &
seas.
Some  of  them  eg
bacteria  &  yeast
can  even  live
inside  or  on
animals’  bodies.   Prepared  by  Ms  Sue  Soh
UNICELLULAR ORGANISMS
Euglena  &
chlamydomonas
are  unicellular
organisms  that
have  chloroplasts;
therefore  they  can
make  their  own
food  by
photosynthesis.

UNICELLULAR ORGANISMS
Paramecium
and  amoeba
depend  on
solid  food  that
they  take  in
from  the
surrounding
water.

UNICELLULAR ORGANISMS
They  conduct  simple  life
processes  within  the  single  cells.
a)    oxygen  is  absorbed  from
the  water  &  waste  products  are
 excreted  into  the  water
 through  the  cell  membrane  b)
 yeast  reproduces  by
 budding
c)  most  of  them  move  by
 bea*ng  the  movements  of
 their  cilia  or  flagella
d)    Amoeba  moves  by
 protruding  its  cytoplasm.

MULTICELLULAR ORGANISMS
Hydra,  Spirogyra  &
Mucor  are  among
the  simplest
mul*cellular
organisms.
Others  eg  insects,
mushroom,  birds,  &
humans  are  much
larger  and    made  of
many  more  cells.
