At the end of the session, I would be able to:
MU10CM-IIId-e-5-improvise simple vocal/instrumental accompaniments to selected
contemporary Philippine music;
MU10AP-IIa-h-6 - perform selections of Afro-Latin American and popular music in
appropriate pitch, rhythm, style, and expression

Concepts:

CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE INSTRUMENTS

GUITAR - a stringed musical instrument, with a fretted fingerboard, typically
incurved sides, and six or twelve strings, played by
plucking or strumming with the fingers or a plectrum
Bass Drum – produces a note of low definite and indefinite pitch
Snare Drum – known as a side drum is a ever-present percussion instrument known
for its cylindrical shape.
Cymbals – consist of thin, normally round plates of various alloys.
Trumpet – played by blowing air through almost-closed lips, producing a “buzzing”
sound.
Saxophone – commonly used in classical music concert bands.
Violin - a stringed musical instrument of treble pitch, played with a horsehair bow. 

Popular music encompasses a wide variety of styles, including

influential genres such ballads, standards, rock and roll and hiphop and rap.

● BALLADS -The ballad originated as an expressive folksong in narrative verse

with text dealing typically about love.
● STANDARDS -In music, the term “standard” is used to denote the most popular
and enduring songs from a particular genre or style, such as those by Irving
Berlin, Cole Porter, and Rodgers and Hart.
● ROCK AND ROLL Rock and roll was a hugely popular song form in the United
States during the late 1940’s to the 1950’s.
● DISCO -The 1970s saw the rise of another form of pop music known as “disco.”
Disco music pertained to rock music that was more danceable, thus leading to
the establishment of venues for public dancing also called discos.
● HIP HOP AND RAP - Hip hop music is a stylized, highly rhythmic type of music
that usually (but not always) includes portions of rhythmically chanted words
called “rap.”

Music is a strong form of expression, and through music many emotions can be
shown whether that be happy, sad, or angry. Music gives you the opportunity to
express yourself without using words of your own instead the emotions of a
complex song or a simple love song to do so. In doing this you are able to release all
the feelings you have for that period of time that song is on, and feel like all those
emotions are being played out throughout the song. You can play a song, and it can
have the same situation you are going through, and you feel a sense of relief. It helps
you understand that in that moment you can feel like there is something that can help
you relate to what is going on in your life. Music gives you the chance to release things,
and feel things that you wouldn’t be able to without it. It makes you sad or happy
through the first couple of seconds listening to the piece.
Rhythm is the arrangement of musical time. Music is arranged in beats. Rhythm
is the note lengths in piece of music.
Pitch it is the highness or lowness of tone.
