Contact hours: 60 Hours (3 Hour Lecture, 1 Hour Practical) Credit units: 3.0 Practical 1: Identification of areas of application of various engineering disciplines in solving agricultural problems. Students should know the practical application of related engineering fields contributing to solving agricultural problems. Practical 2: Produce a chart of the areas of specialization and other sub-areas in agricultural engineering. students should produce charts for display. Learning resources: Wall charts, drawings, photographs, etc. Practical 3: Identification of various power sources and machinery used in agricultural engineering. guide students to identify different implements, tools, equipment, and machinery used in agriculture. Learning resources: Catalogs, charts, different implements, tools, equipment, and machinery Practical 4: Identification of specific type of power in use, their mode of generation and utilization in the college farm. Guide students to identify specific power sources available in a specific area. Learning resources: Farmstead and various power sources. Practical 5: Visit a tractor sales or hiring unit, observe various tractors in use, and classify the tractors observed. Identification of the functional units of the tractor. Tabulate the units and their various functions. Learning resources: Site visit to a tractor sales or hiring unit. Practical 6: Visit erosion control sites or display pictures or films to show various methods of erosion control. Identify each structure, describe its constructional features as well as the process of using it. Learning resources: Site visit to an erosion control site or show films. Practical 7: Site visitations: Visit an irrigated farm or show films to demonstrate the applications of soil and water engineering. Learning resources: Site visit to an irrigated farm or show films. Practical 8: Visit to a suitable farm site or views on slides and/or films of irrigation and draining operations. Identify the various irrigation and draining equipment. Describe their features and principles of operations. Learning resources: Site visit to an irrigated farm or show films. Practical 9: Carry out measurements of hydraulic characteristics of water control structures like weirs, flumes etc. Learning resources: Site visit to an irrigated farm or show films. Use appropriate hydraulic measuring devices such as weirs, flumes etc. Practical 10: Identify different farm structures within the farm, their features and uses. Make sketches. Learning resources: Machinery building, farm houses, abattoir, warehouse, processing centers etc. Practical 11: Identify and explain the different features of the various types of animal housing units. Learning resources: Animal houses, poultry houses, rabbitry etc. Practical 12: Identify and explain the different features of the various types of crop storage facilities. Learning resources: crop storage facilities e.g. barn, silo, rhumbus, crib, etc. Practical 13: Visit the nearest farm settlement. Outline the key buildings and their role. Learning resources: Farmstead, farm settlement e.g. Ayaragu farm settlement, individual and integrated farms etc. Practical 14: Visit neighbouring farms or project sites where electricity is used in farm operations. Write your observations. Learning resources: Individual and integrated farms, small/medium agricultural industry etc. Practical 15: Demonstrate and explain the uses of any of the available processing and storage facilities. Learning resources: Individual and integrated farms, small/medium agricultural industry where such facilities are available etc.
