Significant Weather Features

♦ Under the influence of a Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over east Afghanistan & neighbourhood and an
induced cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & adjoining West Rajasthan in lower tropospheric levels:
(i) Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/snowfall very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan
& Muzaffarabad, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall over Himachal Pradesh during next 2 days and isolated to
scattered rainfall/snowfall likely over Uttarakhand during next 3 days.
(ii) Isolated thunderstorm/lighting and hail very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad,
Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand during 26th-27th February.
♦ The temperatures are above normal by 4-6°C over most parts of Northwest India and adjoining parts of Central and East
India. It is likely to continue during next 3 days and then fall by 2-4°C subsequently.

Main Weather Observations


♦ Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today): at many places over Jammu &
Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad and isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya,
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe.
♦ Rainfall recorded (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today) (1 cm or more): Wayanand and Idukki-3 cm each;
Kupwara & Punalur-1 cm each.
♦ Maximum Temperature Departures as on 25-02-2021: Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at
most places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West
Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan and Jharkhand; at many places over Himachal Pradesh; at a few places over East Uttar Pradesh; at isolated
places over East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places
over Bihar, Odisha, West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha; at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya and Gujarat state; above normal
(1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Chhattisgarh; at a few places over
Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa; at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Telangana,
Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places
over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of
39.4°C was reported at Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) over the country.
♦ Minimum Temperature Departures as on 26-02-2021: Minimum temperatures are markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few
places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad and West Rajasthan; at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh
and East Rajasthan; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over Punjab; at many places over West Uttar Pradesh,
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Marathwada; at a few places over Madhya
Maharashtra; at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gujarat
state, Coastal Karnataka and Andaman & Nicobar Islands; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Bihar; at a few places over
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Konkan & Goa and Kerala & Mahe; at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal,
Odisha and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. They are below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over South Interior Karnataka;
at a few places over Telangana and Rayalaseema; at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and near normal over rest
parts of the country. The lowest minimum temperature of 11.4°C reported at Rewa (East Madhya Pradesh) over the plains of the
country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0830 hours IST)
♦ The Western Disturbance now seen as a cyclonic circulation over east Afghanistan & neighbourhood
persists and now seen between 3.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level.
♦ The induced cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & neighbourhood now lies over north Pakistan
& adjoining West Rajasthan and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level.
♦ The cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level
persists.
♦ The cyclonic circulation over Comorin area & neighbourhood now lies over Lakshadweep-Maldives
area at 1.5 km above mean sea level.
♦ A cyclonic circulation lies over Bangladesh at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
♦ A cyclonic circulation lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal off north Srilanka coast at 1.5 km above
mean sea level.
♦ The cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level
has become less marked.
Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 03rd March, 2021
♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.
♦ No significant change in minimum temperature over most parts of Northwest and Central India during
next 3 days and fall by 2-4°C thereafter.
♦ No significant change in minimum temperature over most parts of West India during next 2 days and
fall by 2-3°C thereafter.
♦ No significant change in minimum temperature over rest parts of the country during next 4-5 days.
♦ Shallow to Moderate Fog likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Northeast India in the morning hours
of 27th February, 2021.
Weather Outlook for subsequent 2 days from03rd March, 2021 to 05th March, 2021
♦ Under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance, isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall activity
likely over Western Himalayan region. Isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm likely over parts of
Northeast India and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
♦ Weather likely to be dry over rest parts of the country.
