living mation for Teacher
Gravity is a natural force that pulls all
objects toward the center of the earth. Gravity is
a force of attraction between objects that is due
to their masses. All matter has mass. Gravity is a
result of mass. Therefore, all matter is affected
by gravity.
Gravity between the objects of the solar
system holds the solar system together.
Compared with all objects around you, Earth
has a huge mass. The gravitational attraction of
Earth is thus an important force that you
experience all the time. The gravitational force of
the Earth pulls all things towards the center of
the Earth. Because of this, dropped objects fall to
the ground, instead of floating around. You must
apply forces to overcome Earth’s gravitational
force every time you lift objects.

H. Making What have you learned today?

generalization What is gravity?
and abstractions Imagine the world without gravity, what would it
about the lesson be without it?

I. Evaluating EVALUATE
Learning Directions: Choose the letter of the correct
answer.
1. Which best refers to gravity?
A. It is the force that creates tidal waves
B. It is the relationship between the Earth and
the moon
C. It is one of the four physical forces found in
nature
D. It is the force that holds the Earth together
2. If you were to go to the moon, how would you
feel?
A. Weightless
B. Heavy
C. Huge
D. Tiny
3. Why do your feet stay on the ground instead
of floating?
A. Centrifugal force
B. Gravity
C. Volume and mass
D. Weight
4. Who was the first scientist to really study and
experiment with gravity and motion?
A. Sir Isaac Newton
B. Alex Haley
C. Charles Darwin
D. Albert Einstein
5. Why are people, animals and almost all
objects attracted to the Earth?
A. It is where they were born or created so
they have an attraction to remain in a
place that is familiar to them
B. Because the moon has a smaller
gravitational pull, people and animals
would float away so they choose Earth
instead
C. Because people and animals need
oxygen, the Earth is the only source to get
that oxygen to they are attracted to the
Earth in order to find oxygen
D. Because the Earth is bigger than people,
animals and objects on the Earth’s
surface, they are attracted to the Earth
through gravity.
