________4. If f(x) = 2x and g(x) = 2x, then what is (f ° g)(x)?
A. 2x B. 2x+1 C. 22x D. 22x+1
________5. If f(x) = 2x and g(x) = 2 , then what is (g ° f)(x)?
x
b. Because (g° f ¿ (x)means g(f(x)), we must replace each occurrence of x in the function g by f(x).
f(x) = 4x – 5 Given equation of f
(g° f ¿ (x) = g(f(x)) = g (4x – 5 ) Replace x by f(x).
= (4x – 5 )2 + 4 Replace g(x) by x2 + 4
= 16x2 - 40x + 25 + 4 Apply Distributive Law.
= 16x2 - 40x + 29 Combine like terms.
Thus, (g° f ¿ (x) = = 16x - 40x + 29

c. (f° g ¿ (2)
(f° g ¿ (x) = 4x2 + 11
(f° g ¿ (2) = 4(2)2 + 11 = 4(4) + 11 = 16 + 11 = 26
