First Light at the World’s Largest NGO-Run School Meal Program

(Akshaya Pathra)

As per MBA program, students of MBA-I Sem had been to Industrial visit from BVB
College of Engineering and Technology to the Akshaya Pathra, Hubli. Forty students were been
accompanied by the mentors.

Visit Date and Time

Visit to Akshaya Pathra, Hubli on 19th Nov 2010 at 6 am

Students travelled to Akshaya Pathra by College Bus named “Vardha” from BVB
campus at 5.45 am and reached to the destination at 6 am, The registration process for the visit
was done by the mentors and then as a safety measure all the students were given the caps to
wear.

All the students were assembled in the hall and we were welcomed by Industrial Guide
Mr. Ram Gopal Das, Operating Manager, Iscon-Akshaya Pathra.

Initially guide briefed about the firm, its vision and mission, area of expansion in terms of
schools under its kitchen.

Then Guide explained the Akshaya Pathra Production Process;

Stage 1 -> Storage; were the Storage of Food grains i.e Rice, Dal and showed us the Rice
Cleaning Machine,

Stage 2 -> Batching System Rice and Dal Batching for the Cooking, then to the
Vegetable Section where the Grading manually and Chopping of vegetables is done.

Stage 3 -> Rice steam boiler and Sambar boiler section


Stage 4 -> Packaging section where in food is pack special container.3 types container
are used, they are; small, medium, big. Food is fresh for 5hrs in the containers.

Stage 5 -> Transportation To Reach out 770 schools29 Vehicles owned & 13 hired In
vehicle there will be Driver, supervisor and guider.

Stage 6 -> Electricity block Self dependent electricity generation, Furnace oil Ecofriendly
comparatively to other sources

In all the above process the industrial guide explained us the each stage and its
functioning, as we all gone through the all departments of the production unit we assembled at
the hall were we had the question and answer session. After the session the vote of thanks was
given by a student and the session was concluded. Then the Students travelled back to the
campus and reached the campus at 8 am.

The groups formed in the class presented the presentation about their studies at Akshaya
pathra on 08/12/2010 , the jury of the presentation were

At the end of the presentation the feedback of the jury was given to the students and the
vote of thanks was proposed by the student.
