STARCRAFT II GAME UNITS OBSERVER

Previous Protoss Unit: Sentry Next Protoss Unit: Immortal

UNITS

OBSERVER
These small drones are
employed to survey vast
wasteland areas or record
battles for the Protoss
archives. Their complex
sensor array can detect
cloaked enemies with ease,
making the Observer an
invaluable auxiliary unit on the
battlefield. However, the sensor array also depletes
the Observer’s overall energy, which weakens the
unit’s defensive capabilities. To compensate for their
lack of armor power, Observers are equipped with a
micro-cloaking field to hide them from the enemy. The
drone’s small sensor signature allows it to maintain
this field over long periods with very little drain on its
power core.

Observer - Game - StarCraft II

Attributes: Light - Mechanical

GENERAL STRATEGY

Light unit that provides detection.

STRONG AGAINST
Permanently cloaked.
Fragile; be careful of anti-air defenses that can detect them.

Extremely valuable as a scout. Use it to explore the map or track the

enemy’s movements.
Banshee Roach Dark Templar
An attentive opponent may notice the shimmering outline of your
observer, even if they are cloaked. Try not to move through heavily
WEAK AGAINST
monitored areas, like going through the middle of the enemy’s base.

Missile Turret Spore Crawler Photon Cannon

UPGRADES

GRAVITON BOOSTER: Passive increase to the Observer’s movement speed.

COUNTERMEASURES

VS Terran

Build Missile Turrets around your base to detect them.

Build a Raven and some Vikings, and fly around the map to hunt down
enemy Observers.
If you see the shimmering form of the Observer, use a Ghost to fire an

EMP round at it. This will reveal it for a few seconds, giving your Ghost
enough time to kill it.

VS Zerg

Morph some Overlords into Overseers for their detection capabilities, or

Observer - Game - StarCraft II

build a few Spore Colonies around your base.

Spawn Mutalisks and team them up with an Overseer. Proceed to scour the
map in search of Observers.
Have an Infestor use Fungal Growth if you spot a shimmering outline. This

removes the cloak for a few seconds and allows your anti-air units to kill
the Observer.

VS Protoss

Place a few Photon Cannons around your base to detect them.

Use Phoenixes coupled with an Observer of your own to hunt down enemy
Observers.

Observers are extremely fragile, so units that can attack air (and can see
them) will be able to kill them quickly.

This annoying stealth robot is a reason why stalkers, phoenixes, carriers and void rays can sense my cloaked banshees and ghosts.

Ironspider 2/18/11 6:54 PM

do 'toss perverts set these up in the girls restroom? I wonder...

*Starts whacking brain*

Bad Brain! Stop thinking dirty thoughts!

darkzealot 2/14/11 5:00 AM

all these things need is a death laser and 100 more shields

bubble 1/27/11 4:52 AM

lol they haven't updated the page yet. They cost 25 less each now like they did in the origonal but this time they don't need a tech

building which is a HUGE improvement.

masternoob 1/23/11 5:44 PM

its always a cool feeling putting this in an enemy base and he doesnt even notice it until he looks very closely

Fergilicious 1/18/11 10:03 PM

zerg need a cloaked spy like this

masternoob 1/23/11 5:45 PM

@Fergilicious: a "cloaked spy" could easily be either a burrowed infestor or roach moving through the ground into their base.

Conquerer 1/26/11 1:34 AM

@masternoob: he means something available earlier, not something that requires two upgrades and a lair

Devek 1/28/11 6:56 AM

@Conquerer: Could always use a changeling

Xcalibur 1/12/11 3:50 AM

All you need to do is update the page...

Doncroft 1/12/11 12:21 AM

Thank you, Blizzard, so much for the 25/75 badly needed Observer buff, which you still haven't updated on this page. :-D

PAINCRAFT 12/27/10 1:26 AM

ITS A PROBE!!!!!!!!!!!

http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/unit/observer[3/3/2011 9:36:33 AM]

Observer - Game - StarCraft II

masternoob 1/23/11 5:46 PM

@PAINCRAFT: a FLYING probe. works great for airbourne expansions

randomperson 1/27/11 5:05 PM

@PAINCRAFT: no, its an invisible flying video camera. the toss send footage of noobs to AFSC2V

ThePreator 2/22/11 8:05 PM

@PAINCRAFT: if it is a probe then it is a stealth detecting probe

Espearican 12/13/10 10:01 PM

They should be able to teleport units to designated areas.

Conquerer 1/26/11 1:36 AM

@Espearican: No. That's op. A lot. Besides, toss already have warp prisms and motherships

Kevin 12/13/10 4:11 PM

dont use them as a scout, sent them with ur void rays to detect any enemy the void ray cant

Doncroft 12/11/10 6:30 AM

I dearly hope the change to Observers in the PTR gets applied. Observers 25/75 would be so much more practical. Terrans have gotten

so good at sniping them, many Protoss are getting halucinated Phoenix instead. 25/75 would make them practical again, less devastating

if they get scan-sniped.

Campbell 12/7/10 5:05 PM

Why would that Terran player put cloaked ghosts in his own base?

PAINCRAFT 12/27/10 1:24 AM

@Campbell: because they are stupid

Joey 12/5/10 3:30 AM

what the little guy sounds like when built

Starviper 12/3/10 7:45 PM

Protoss Rant #4: Observers: Despite having been moved down one grueling Protoss tier, these guys are still .5-1 tier above the cloakers

of the other races. Meaning it might not make a difference if you build observers if the enemy attacks with cloakers.

CLockwerk 12/9/10 11:51 PM

@Starviper: Also, to get this your forced into robotics play, which limits the protoss tech tree. By being forced into the same

build over and over, protoss can get somewhat dull.

creamwolf 12/11/10 6:59 AM

@CLockwerk: You are not forced into a robo. You don't have to build colossus you know? Just get the robo bay and

observers, then transition into other tech with an expo.

legoo 12/3/10 3:52 AM

hey i just noticed zerg infestor can infest cloaked units apperently XD

Conquerer 1/26/11 1:37 AM

@legoo: As in use neural parasite, or reveal them?

legoo 12/3/10 3:50 AM

What idiot would waste his money upgradings mobile detectors with abolutly NO other use.all the upgrade would do is make it more likely

to rush ahead and get mauled by the other guys army.

Campbell 12/7/10 5:04 PM

@legoo: It depends on your army composition because if you don't upgrade them they might lag behind then you owned by

Dark templars. Besides observers are cloaked.

ArconTe 11/24/10 2:19 PM

Yay, it got fixed/update, Spore Crawler with Spore Crawler pic. Lol fail.

LEE 11/15/10 9:46 PM

could u guys run faster?

EnnuiKidd 11/14/10 9:45 PM

Why are they strong against roaches?

http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/unit/observer[3/3/2011 9:36:33 AM]

Observer - Game - StarCraft II

Santor 11/16/10 2:14 PM

@EnnuiKidd: One of the roaches' main strengths is their rapid regeneration while burrowed. Observers can detect the

burrowed roaches, allowing you to pick them off with other units. Same reason it's listed as strong against Banshees and

Dark Templars: it's strong versus units that rely on their cloaking.

legoo 12/3/10 3:51 AM

@EnnuiKidd: Because the boserver has a Big cannon hidden in tis eye that it can only use against roaches, darktemplars,

and banshes. XD

Kelhadar 11/13/10 5:30 PM

A simple way to upgrade these for the protoss expansion would be to give the observer the ability to cloak one additional unit for a short

time. Imagine a cloaked carrier flying into your base at the 7 min mark. Might be a good ability at the use of 100 energy for a max of 2

at a time, or cooldown of 40 seconds. A battle will only last for so long.

ArconTe 11/14/10 12:52 PM

@Kelhadar: that's a good idea, but it doesn't make sense, Observers are just flying cloaked drones. not wizards. I'd give

that to High Templars or Sentries.

Kelhadar 11/18/10 8:31 AM

@ArconTe: i can see you are an intelligent protoss player. im still siver league. with these posts, im just examining possible

things we might see in the protoss expansion on campaign mode. this was a possible way to make the observer more

useful. templar and sentries already have alot on their plate.

ArconTe 11/19/10 6:51 PM

@Kelhadar: lol ty

Chicken 11/10/10 2:24 AM

Lol, I see a mistake. Up there it says spore crawlers and they put a picture of a spine crawler.

Lego 11/19/10 12:30 AM

@Chicken: Lol.. its funny because you don't know what a spore crawler looks like.
