Artist’s Statement and Teaching Philosophy

Art has given me a better relationship with myself. From childhood, I have been
interested in mark-making. What started as a hobby became a central aspect of my
identity. My favorite subjects are art, history, and languages. I often make art in
response to things I am learning or researching. I have several chronic mental and
physical illnesses, and this complex relationship with my body has influenced my work.
Working with children is a balance of teaching and being taught, and I value that
opportunity. I believe students should be encouraged to ask questions and dialogue
with instructors to find creative solutions in classrooms. I enjoy working with student-
driven curriculums exploring themes across subjects and connecting to the student’s
personal experience. By fostering a growth mindset we equip students to be lifelong
learners.
