Cast on, bind off, knit, yarn over, ssk, k2tog,
pick up and knit sts, bind off.

HORSESHOE LACE
Multiple of 10 sts plus 1; 8 rows
Row 1 (RS): K1, (yo, k3, sl1, k2tog, psso, k3, yo,
k1). (11 sts)
Rows 2-8, even (WS): Purl.
Row 3: K1, (k1, yo, k2, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k2).
Row 5: K1, (k2, yo, k1, sl1, k2tog, psso, k1, yo, k3).
Row 7: K1, (k3, yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k4).
PATTERN NOTES
A Garter Tab is used to start this shawl; you
knit a small square of Garter stitch, and then
pick up stitches around it to create a crescent
shape. It will disappear into the Garter-stitch
edging of the shawl as you work.

BORDERS
Border, RS rows, odd numbers: At the
beginning and end of every RS row, start
with k3, yo, work all of the body sts as in
instructions and end with yo, k3.
INSTRUCTIONS
Garter Tab Cast-On: CO 3 sts.
Set-Up Rows 1-6: Knit (Garter stitch). Pick up
sts: Turn work 90 degrees, pick up and knit 3
sts along edge of work, turn work 90 degrees
again and pick up 3 more sts along cast-on
edge (9 sts)
BODY
Row 1 (RS): K3, yo, [k1, yo] 3 times, k3. (13 sts)
Row 2 and all WS Rows: K3, purl to 3 sts from
end, k3.
Row 3: K3, yo, k7, yo, k3. (15 sts)
Row 5: K3, yo, [k1, yo] 9 times, k3. (25 sts)
Rows 6-20: Continue working in this manner:
WS: K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3.

Border, WS rows, even numbers: Knit all sts.
The Border stitches are worked the same
way throughout the shawl except in the lace
sections. The stitches between the Borders are
the Body sts. You’ll work increases in the Body
section to shape the shawl.
LACE SECTIONS
Please note: you do NOT work the Border
Increases in the Lace Sections.
BIND OFF
Use needles a couple of sizes bigger to
ensure a stretchy cast-off edge, or use Jeny’s
Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off.
