50th Church Workers Convocation – Call for

Theme Songs

Introduction

It started in 1961 by Dr. Paul T. Lauby as a continuing theological

education program of the Divinity School. As such, the idea is to bring to the
Divinity School, in connection with the Silliman University Annual Founders
Day, the DS alumni and other church workers so that they may be able to
avail of this Continuing Theological Education Program. Naturally, the theme
of the convocation varies from year to year but sometimes, it follows the
theme of Silliman University Founder’s Day Celebration.

In 2011, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of this Church

Workers Convocation, the longest running convocation of its kind in the
country. We invite you to be part of this joyous event by sending us your
song composition/s that is reflective of our theme.

Theme of the 50th Church Workers Convocation

“Sustaining Theological Education for a Christ – like Ministry”

Preliminary Explanation of the theme:

Preview of the past themes

The 2009 theme “Theological Education in the Midst of Crisis” focused

more on the crisis or various challenges besetting theological education in
the UCCP these days. The 2010 theme “theological Education and
Partnership in Mission Education: the Church, the Academe and the World”
considers the values partnership with various entities with which seminaries
are essentially related. The planned theme for next year considers the issue
of the sustainability of theological education in a way that its mission
towards a more Christ – like or Christ centered ministry in the churches can
be further enhanced, and strengthened.

The theme for next year

The theme for next year actually has profound theological implications
that can determine the kind of direction theological education in the UCCP
has to adopt. The theme is intended to focus on a more Christological basis
for the task and mission of theological education. This means engaging in
reexamination of the paradigm of Jesus as the model for the conduct of
theological education and mission.

The kind of church worker or pastor that has to be produced by the

formation centers of the UCCP has to be deeply rooted in the values,
perspectives, priorities and in the essential message of the gospel of the
kingdom of God as proclaimed, acted out and sacrificed for by Jesus
himself.ths, this is going to be an attempt to develop a clear biblical –
theological anchor and framework for a more relevant and sustainable
theological education program for the UCCP.this is going to be task and the
challenge for those who want to be involved and participate in next year’s
Church Workers’ Convocation.
