Job Description

Job Title: DR Head Nurse

The DR Head nurses supervise nursing activities in the delivery room. While some patient care
is usually required, the DR Head nurse’ new duties include setting up work schedules, assigning
duties to a nursing staff, and ensuring that each member of the nursing team is adequately
trained.
Head nurses are ultimately responsible for the performance of the nurses on their team. This
means that they must ensure that nursing records are correctly maintained, that report is
correctly given at each shift change, and that equipment and other supplies are in stock.

Qualification/Requirements
Must have a Bachelor Degree in Nursing
A minimum of two (2) years experience in hospital operations (labor / delivery operations)
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Philippines
Certified Nurse Midwife

Job Relationship

The Head Nurse reports to the Medical Director and liases closely with the DR team.

Performance Description
Supervisor
Head nurses act as the supervisors of a facility's nursing staff. They allocate duties and
evaluate the performance of other nurses. They also train any newly hired nurses.

Patients
Head nurses also work directly with patients. They ensure that patients' conditions
remain stable and that doctors' treatment instructions have been properly carried out.

Inventory Management
Head nurses are responsible for ensuring that adequate quantities of supplies are maintained,
and for ordering new supplies when necessary.

Doctors
Doctors are often accompanied by head nurses while making their rounds. The head nurse is
responsible for alerting the doctor to any unique concerns or complaints regarding a patient.

In order to successfully carry out the duties of a head nurse, an individual must be a
good leader, a self-starter, observant, a good communicator and possess
