Context

A Distrital University student is


writing his/her research project
about ICT implementation in
the school where he/she is
doing the pedagogical project.
She/He has not had the
wonderful composition class,
thus, she/he does not know
how to go around with writing
the document and desperately
needs to graduate in a month
as he/she has already a
$4.000.000 offer job to start this May. Look at the ideas for
the different chapters and help him/her with writing. He/She
is offering a reward that is equivalent to her/his first month
salary.

I. Read the following thesis statement and write an


outline for chapter 1

“The use of information and communication technologies offers


better opportunities for teachers as well as for students. “

Exploring technology we are facing with a lot of problems,


we have many disadvantages especially implementing ICT
teaching English in schools. We have a lot of information to
work with the students, however we always do not have
consistent sources and we need a lot of infrastructure that
many times can interrupt the processes learning with ICT,
also teacher have to qualify the students to use in a correct
way the technology looking for the awareness in the
autonomous work into and out the classroom. Finally
exploring and using technology specifically ICT we have
advantages and disadvantages however the most
important is facing each one with the properly strategy
maximizing all sources we have and giving the students the
possibility to learn and practice more conscious about their
own process in ICT learning.

Though disadvantages also exist, for example, when the students
looks for information and finds plenty without knowing which is
true, this tends to confuse the student. Another disadvantage are
the constant change of the instruments, the requirement of wide
and modern infrastructures, bearing in mind that many
educational establishments lack them. Since for example in the
institucion where I work, only one computer room exists and it’s in
the Baccalaureate headquarters, Elementary school children have
access to it in the systems class, but requesting the room for other
subjects it is very complicated, I would dare say almost
impossible. I have my own laptop and I use it to design the work
guides.
Comments:
The text has adjectives and academic words nevertheless
is not objective, it has a lot of impressions like experiences
but not argue base in a theory or a real thesis
The text has grammar mistakes.

IV. This is an article for the literature review. Read it


carefully. Is it relevant for this research? Why? Why
not?

How can technology contribute to the language classroom?


A recurring theme in the literature on computer mediated communication is that
New Technologies offer opportunities for treating teaching and learning as truly
social activities where knowledge is built through interaction and dialogue rather
than lectures and recitation (Brown, 2000, Hardwick, 2000, Rice, 2003).
Technology goes beyond the delivery of information and lies instead in the
power to create collaborative, learner-centered educational spaces (Deitering &
Huston, 2004). Thanks to technology now language teachers have new tools that
can provide students with opportunities to interact with virtual communities
while at the same time they can construct knowledge and exchange cultural
issues with the participants. This interaction fosters communication among the
individuals in the community which at the same time can enhance construction
knowledge, socio-cultural understanding and language learning. For this specific
research project, blogs were used as a tool to provide students a different
learning writing environment that allowed them to interact, communicate and
learn with people from an English speaking country.
