Introduction

From what you know about Christopher’s condition, write a general introduction
on what you know about Christopher’s struggle with relationships.

Christopher and Father

Point

Evidenc
e

Christopher’s father is very caring towards Christopher. ‘He held up his

right hand and spread his fingers out in a fan’ (p.21) Christopher’s father
arrives at the police station and immediately makes a gesture to show
Christopher he loves him, rather than being angry at him. This shows that
Christopher’s father has a good knowledge of Christopher’s condition and
can understand why Christopher behaved the way he did.

Exploration
(Refer to Extract 1)

Moreover, Christopher’s father is often patient, logical and understanding

of Christopher’s condition in a serious situation. For example
‘…………………………………………………………………’ This reveals that
father understands that Christopher’s discovery of his mother being alive
will affect him in a way that he may not understand, but father maintains
his patience, even though he himself is experiencing a lot of powerful
emotions.

(Refer to Extract 2)

However, Christopher’s father is not always this caring. For example

‘…………………………………………………………………………………………’ This
shows
that……………………………………………………………………………………………
………………………………………………….

Now, using the PEE model (as above), explore how Christopher behaves towards
Father (you may wish to compare his behaviour at the beginning and towards
the end of the novel.)
